Bergkamp.....Henry completed a change of style at Arsenal...Bergkamp began it..
Re: Greatest Foreign Player in PL History
Bergkamp the best 'footballer'.
Henry the best 'player'.
We were incredibly lucky to have both at the same time. It was like cheating.
A better manager than Wenger would have achieved more with them imo, ie Champions League's.

Bergkamp - he came and did it when he still had to deal with being kicked all round the park, by the time Henry came the refs were letting less go.
Henry still a brilliant talent though.

Great point mate. People forget how physical and dirty the game was back then. Most modern players get the time space and opportunity to show their skills. Back then it was faster and defenders and DMs got away with "levellers" and putting their marker in early through the back of players' achilles on a regular basis. Bergkamp had a reputation for also being a hard and dirty bastard.AkneyGooner wrote: ↑Thu Aug 30, 2018 5:40 amBergkamp - he came and did it when he still had to deal with being kicked all round the park, by the time Henry came the refs were letting less go.

He earned the right to put on the flair. Nowadays it's a given right. Watch the way he ragdolled that Toon defender for THAT goal. You could almost hear him growling "Get. The. Fuck. Out. Of. My. Way."
To play at the level he did in those days was unheard of. Simply the greatest player the PL has ever seen.

Motherfucker.
Conflicted now.
I fucking LOVED Limpar. What a player. What skill he had. What a slap he hit that McClair cùnt with.
No. Still Bergkamp. With an honorable mention for The Anders.

Oh yes, absolutely Dennis all day long. Funnily enough, I was working for the bank who have the Arsenal account when we signed DB and will never forget the day that the Risk Director came down to tell my boss that the bank were arranging finance for Arsenal to buy DB. The RD was a pri.ck and a spud ST holder and I have never seen anyone look so completely and utterly sick in my life... ... he was absolutely gutted that we were getting Bergkamp. Well until about a couple of weeks later when he had to make the same visit to announce the bank were funding David Platt as well - fucking brilliant. Suffice to say we were all sworn to silence about the deals until formally announced which were the longest weeks of my life. Good times

I'll always remember the day we signed him. Arrived in from work and my dear departed dad phoned and said "put on the telly. We signed Bergkamp".
I switched the tv on. Could not believe what I was seeing.
I ran out into the back yard and just ran around in circles yelling and punching the air. What a rush. My GF at the time thought I'd had some kind of breakdown.

The more I watch Aguero, the more I think he has a claim to be honest. David Silva too.
