Sad news
The 82 World Cup was the first World cup i remember properly and was probably when my real football education began..Up until then i thought English football was the be all and end all...
Then i saw that Brazil side, with Socrates the man at the centre of it pulling the strings making it all look so easy and barely breaking a sweat doing it, he was Xavi before Xavi was born.. The 82 Brazil and Socrates in particular changed my whole understanding of football and how to play it, my football education moved on light years in the space of a few weeks...
Socrates was one of my first childhood footballing heros and whilst most of them mean f*ck all to me now, this big, skinny, bushy haired, bearded guy, strolling around the middle of the park with his silly headband on, desperate for another fag, is still and will always be one of my greatest footballing memories and one of my few footballing heros...

RIP, that Brazil team were fantastic, didn't Socrates make a comeback a few seasons ago for a non-league side, but he didn't want to leave the dug out because it was too cold. I can't remember the team it was for, I remember seeing something on T.V. a few months ago about it.Rosie_titters wrote:probably the best national team squad not to win a world cup - him, Zico and Falcao were brilliant for Brazil in 82
