Szczesny name change

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Szczesny name change

Wojciech Szczesny is to change his name in the UK after becoming fed up of people mis-pronouncing and mis spelling it.

"I will keep my name in Poland and East European countries, but I will legally be known as William Smith from early April, when the tax year starts. It is important that people be able to spell my name correctly, and I have had trouble with this on legal documents, in medical situations and with my car insurance. In a gesture to fans, anyone with a Szczesny goalkeeper jersey can bring it in to the club shop during April where the name will be changed to Smith free of charge, paid for by Szczesny himself."

No, it wasn't really - especially using the name William Smith!!! :oops: Smith? :shock: :shock: Seriously, who was going to believe that? :oops: :oops: Might have been more convincing if he had used the spelling of his surname that the fans do, i.e. Chesney.
