As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

As the end of the season officially ends tomorrow there seems no better time to do this. After a long hard thought I’ve decided to leave the forum.
Before anyone thinks this is a vanity post it isn’t and I’ll explain my reasons for leaving the OG below.

Before I do, thanks for this thread. Nice to know I’m thought of…well by some. :D

When the forum was taken down it was a good time for me to think.
I won’t go into the full details but over the last year or so I wasn’t happy with the username of Boomer. I know I could request to change it but there was another issue that was very frustrating that simply changing the name wouldn’t stop. The stigma over my spelling!

I’ll admit it was funny at first and in the early days I was even prone to deliberately making the odd mistake for a laugh. It quickly became a drag.
Other forum members would make more mistakes & worse one’s too. These obvious mistakes were always overlooked yet my post were scrutinised for the smallest detail. Doing a “Boomer” or a “Boomer-ism” is even a part of OG folk law.
I’m tough skinned enough to take it but the real issue was that it was affecting the whole enjoyment of forum, and not just for me.
Certain forum members would target my posts and had I made a mistake a huge deal would be made over it. This ‘joke’ started to take over a threads and some really good topic’s were ruined.
Before the forum went down I had started to post less anyway all because I had started to feel that the enjoyment had gone. Knowing that when/if I posted it could spoil a thread for the other forum users.
I’ve been lurking ever since yet still in that time I have been away I’m referred to in context with bad spelling/gramma. So simply changing my username won’t help.

I’ve had long enough to think and & happy with my decision.

As I’ve said, I’d almost stopped posting before the site was changed so not using the forum won’t be a great loss to me.
Who knows? Maybe I might return in the future but if I do it will be certainly under a new username.

Here’s to a new season!! :barscarf:

I hope you DO return Boomer.

Had I known the occasional joke about spelling would have such an affect on you I would never have done so.

Apologies.

Btw: I am dyslexic, (word blind dyslexia) so have to work incredibly hard not to make mistakes, though it affects my speech and conversational skills more than the written medium, but sometimes i think feck it...so don't think you're alone in this kind of thing.

Best Wishes. OBG
