THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

OH and I forgot Lord of the double double :barscarf:
and only the second manager to win the league in N17 in 59 yrs :bowing21:
Don't forget the only Arsenal manager to go 8 (EIGHT) seasons in a row without winning anything :barscarf:

Oh and as a fine reflection of his socialist values - the only Arsenal manager to be paid well over £100m in salary

And because of the lasting damage he did, probably the last manager to ever win the league in N17

(we could play this game all day Herbert or just agree that whatever he did or didn't do, he was still a massive :censored:  8) )

You see there's always that part of me that will never forget those first 10 years (and the last 3 FA Cups) but unfortunately the part that remembers the last decade of his reign will also never forget that decade for all the wrong reasons. :|

Conversely the man that gave me some of my greatest enjoyment and memories as a Gooner is also the man that gave me some of my worst.

Now that Wenger has rightfully been appointed as the ruler of football, many will wonder what changes to the rules will be implemented over the next few years. Extracts from a leaked draft document reveal some of what we can expect:

- similar to rugby and the original rules of football, the ball cannot be passed forward when in the opponents half. Only sideways and backwards passing is permitted. Advancement towards the opponents goal is gained only by means of running with the ball.

- to discourage individualism in what is a team game, no player can run forward more than 20 yards with the ball before checking, cutting back inside and then releasing it.

- to encourage technical efficiency, completing at least 15 successive passes in the build up is required before having a shot at goal from outside the box.

- to prevent negative ‘’parking the bus’’ tactics, no more than 3 defenders are allowed in their own area at any one time.

- only block tackling is allowed, no contact must be made with an opponent at any time. Except for shaking hands and embracing before kickoff and at the end of the game. For the image of the game, this is compulsory.

- managers shaking hands before and after the final whistle is not compulsory.

- at least 4 different continents must be represented in the starting line-up of each top division team to encourage diversity and multiculturalism.

- along with team sheets, managers must submit their substitutions pre-match, naming both the personnel involved and the time it will happen (only in the case of injury may this be reviewed and only at the discretion of the referee).

- rotational captaincy is a requirement of every club to encourage shared responsibility and collective leadership.

- each player must be captain at least one time per season and every time it’s his birthday.

- socialist wage structures must be implemented to encourage team harmony.

- to encourage respect for authority, managers must be the top earners at every club.

- to further encourage respect for authority, no manager must earn more than the top people at FIFA.

- the presence of fans inside stadiums is ONLY required for positivity and encouragement. Any dissent or hostility towards players, board or management (be it vocal or by banner) results in their removal from the arena and immediate cancellation of membership.

- rehabilitation courses for dissenting fans, educating them how to support a club in the right way, must be completed before their re-entry is considered.

- at all times both the football brand and the image of football as an art form must be protected.

So we finally got to see what "big job" it was that he repeatedly turned down this past decade just so that us ungrateful morons could question his judgement and loyalty

And there was us thinking it was Real Madrid or Barcelona......

Ah yes SteveO, but who could have imagined that he could possibly find a job where he could earn a fortune and pull whatever shit he wanted, with even less accountability than he had at The Arsenal (which was virtually none !) ?

Well, the Great Man has managed it.
