My theory is that he has one good season where he pretty much floggs the players to death like a horse, and he normally wins a title, but then all the players can not stand him after the euphoria of the title win is over they come back remembering how much of an arsehole he is for next season. So he needs out all the players he has fellout with and start agian, or you have to fire him.
