The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

From one bench to another. He will get zero playing time at Madrid. Don't understand this at all.
He is not a bad striker but he really should look for playing time, not time for warming benches.

Casillas

Sokratis
Manolas
Vlaar
Nastasic

Carvalho
Khedira
Schneiderlin
Bender
Milner

Fabregas
Vela

Falcao
Cavani
Cerci
Remy
Hernandez
Welbeck
Balotelli

Plus some I've surely missed.

All were/are available. All linked. Most would have improved us.

Remember this for the following windows. Don't believe the shit about there not being players out there to improve our squad. And don't believe the shit you read in the papers (I'm looking at you, 1989 - turns out O Jogo wasn't reliable all along). These players were never, ever coming.

Our club is not ambitious. We will make a maximum of one marquee signing a year (in a position we don't necessarily need) to keep the season ticket sales up. That's all. There is no ambition to win the league. Don't ever be told otherwise.

This at least made me laugh;

@MadridstaCF: BREAKING NEWS: Arsenal are unable to get hold of Arsene Wenger in Rome as he is refusing to pay for data roaming.

We only sign top, top quality when they're willing to forgo market value on wages. This is why Falcao, Cavani and most of the rest you listed are a pipe-dream.

And I don't blame Wenger 100% on this one. The board is just as guilty trying to pay players like it's still 2004.

Sad but true. Most of them if not all were more than gettable and most of them would have improved our squad significantly.

Seeing Fabregas' name there makes me feel fucking angry... even if he wasn't the type of player we needed the most. He has shown already that he is going to be key player in chelski and could have been that to us too.

No argument to be had, Wenger has totally bodged the window, just as he did last season and pretty much every season before that.

Still NOT signed a striker (even BEFORE Giroud got injured), still NOT signed a defensive midfielder, and unbelievably he still has NOT signed another centre half. We had four, sold TV, and we have not replaced him! Now we only have 3! and one of them is still learning his trade.

Every year Wenger's failure to use the transfer window probably becomes more and more of a disgrace.

Anyone coming on here defending Wenger on this issue is totally deluded. Maybe Wenger could ring Mourinho. I am sure he can show him how to buy and sell players effectively. And whilst he is at it, he can give some management tips to Wenger too. Pathetic.
