PL Legends - Tony Adams

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Remembering his passion, commitment and bravery makes me despair at the majoity of our players today. I wish he'd stayed involved with the club.

I've got his picture in my office (arms out in front of the fans, just volleyed the fourth against Everton from a Bould chip)-

My Wenger-love was at its peak at that very second.

Could go on forever.... what about Wilson, Rice, Armstrong,Mclintock,Radford and thats just 70/71. Need to narrow it down, how about your own top 5 legends.
my idea so i will go first.
1 Tony Adams
2 George Armstrong
3 Pat Rice
4 Dennis Bergkamp
5 David Rocastle

did they show much of his early years - under Don Howe ?

TA and Howe got so much stick, a lot suggesting nepotism was the only reason TA made it into the England Squad at such a young age (19 for a CB back then was unheard of) as Howe stayed on as their trainer.

he got some stick for selling Keown too, and persisting with Adams to partner O'leary and Viv.

I do remember a couple of TA's big gaffes for England - both times he stood on the ball i think. and I remember the stick the papers gave him, which i think was right up our old crowds alley.

it allowed us to draw ranks in the US v them war, and the more he got abused the more we loved him and he proved them all wrong.

George did know - making him captain at 22, he was our leader on and off the pitch.

he should have been England Captain, but the booze nixed that. I remember when he was inside, the crowd singing "we've lost our Tony Adams, and now he's gone, gone..." over the xmas period ( v sunderland ?), maybe hoping he'd hear us on Capital.

having had two points deducted by the FA that year as well, my favourite moment of watching his career was him lifting the League Title at home in 1991.

The Everton goal was a wonderful moment, and a great reward for a long career but this is the moment that sticks :

TWO legends for the price of one there.

Finally. Someone who remembers Geordie Armstrong. My favourite player throughout my childhood. A true legend.

my top five :

1. Bergkamp
2. Adams
3. O'leary
4. PV4
5. our back four -1986 to 2002.

five is not enough though - there has been many deserving - Rice, Mclintock, GG, Charlie, Smudge, Davis, Keown, Big Pat, Parlour, and is TH14 or PV4 more of a legend than IWWW ? tough call....

A difficult call.
I think there should be a total different criteria between "your 5 greatest arsenal legends" in comparison to "your 5 greatest arsenal players"

The criteria for a legend should include not only talent but equally loyalty. passion , longevity and love for the club and its supporters (you and i)

The criteria for greatness is purely performance imo
