Modern Football Bol**cks

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Having seen the figures for prize money from the Premier League only, Arsenal received £146m. That is an INSANE amount of money. Then to hear the budget for transfers is £40m plus any money from player sales, where the hell is the rest of the money going???

Haven't seen the figures from matchday income, merchandise, Europa League nor the outgoings of wages and stadium maintenance etc...but there is a huge amount of money going missing...

Each PL club pick up about £80M before a ball is kicked which the club has already built into it's trading figures. Then we get about an extra £30M for 5th place and £30M for TV facility fees = £140M. Presumably a chunk of that is also predictable and therefore no doubt spent before it turns up.

That must be the one thing I dislike in football. I love watching it, I love playing it, I love discussing it, but man, it annoys me to no end to see so much money sunk in it, with everything that derives from it: the escort girls, the purchase headlines that feel like they're out of a 17th century slave market, the businessisation of the clubs... What do they even do with so much money? Look at what you need in a lifetime, look at how much it costs to buy a villa in Athens, check out the price of a Bugatti, and explain me... where the hell do they put that money?

all you heard about over the weekend was how crap the Champions League final was.

ok here is an idea for UEFA - why don't you just go back to playing this match in MAY, so there is not such a gap from the end of the league season, and the temperatures are less likely to be over 90c at kick off time!!

To be fair to UEFA, the victims threw their normal gameplan out the window and instead of attacking with pace like they always do, they played scared and sat back after they scored the penalty - I would say that klopp's mentality was influenced by his awful cup final record, hence the change in tactics. When you add that to the scum's fear of the Liverpool strikers, it was always gonna be a safety first/boing game. If it was an all Italian final (juve v milan 2003), the English media would be in full flight now slating how negative Italian football is, and how exciting the premier league is  :censored:

The game has become a joke - although the more owners like this that we have in the game, the more diluted the effect they have will be.

The FA must have forseen this could have prevented it. But its like UEFA in that the people making the decisions that are slowly killing the game benefit financially from what they allow.

The more the merrier I say 8) In reality what we are looking at for the immediate future is what we have now ........ more under-investment and more stagnation/decline with this current owner. The only way that changes is if his "investment" starts to quickly nosedive in value as more clubs like the geordies and dirty leeds overtake us, and he wont want to lose money that's for sure  He will then be backed into a corner ...... either invest properly (unlikely) or sell up to someone else. You would like to think that anyone interested in buying the club will be aware that they would need to invest to make the club valuable again, but who knows

VAR nonsense again last night at the England game. Late goals and the raucous celebrations that follow have always been one of the best things in football. But I think they will become a thing of the past as crowds and players naturally learn to guard against letting themselves get carried away ... instinctively everyone will be hesitant as every goal will have to pass the intense scrutiny of the VAR check first  :banghead:

And who knows what VAR will find ... someone standing 25mm offside ... or maybe a foul throw earlier on in the build up? We cant have that can we! ''The important thing is that the correct decision is made'' ffs

I have ALWAYS been against var and will continue to be so - it is impossible to get every situation 100% correct unless you are willing to spend enough time to be absolutely sure, but they are now in a no mans land where they are bringing this in to try and improve the big decisions, but don't want to spend too much time looking at incidents cos they know the fans and media will then complain about breaking up the flow of the game  Football is a human game and humans make mistakes whether they be players, referee's or linesmen (no not fcuking referee's assistants you c.unts  ), and if we are to accept mistakes from players, then why should it be any different for match officials ? If a decision is so shockingly poor (like if a linesman isnt even in line to call the offside against fat tongue at wembley) then drop the c.unt or let him know that another fcuk up of that level will result in him being dropped, but this undermines officials and already has players surrounding referee's looking for every fcuking little incident to be referred to var  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Agree with both of you and for the sake of the game I think we have to give the game back to the refs and linesman
Fed up with Var interupting games and these stupid ball to hand decisions that are being given nearly every game :banghead:

I'm an nfl fan for years so of course I have known about this rule for a long time, but fcuk me what a pile of shite it really is

https://www.skysports.com/football/news ... ext-season

I wonder how long it will take for the "ethnic minorities" to (rightly) get pissed off and complain about being put through the process as a token gesture by owners who had no intention of hiring them :rubchin: For me, if an owner is against hiring a minority person, then it wont matter how good he interviews cos the red neck has no intention of giving it to him anyway

It's absolute horseshit. I've been dealing with a similar thing in the civil service for the last decade. We have to recruit/promote a certain percentage of disabled people / females whether they can do the job or not.

Now there is a push by some arseholes to extend this thinking to recruit/promote a certain percentage of foreign born Irish people, black people, Asian people, Transgender people, Gay people, etc.

Whatever happened to just recruiting/promoting people that can do the job without worrying about what colour their anus or vagina is or indeed what they like to insert in that anus or vagina ffs.
