Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Mari has been confirmed. Welcome to the club.
Given our recent pathetic record of January signings, hopefully he'll start reversing that. He looked solid without being spectacular in the 3 Flamengo games I watched this season. Given our season so far defensively, solid but not spectacular is probably what we need.
It wouldn't surprise me to see Arteta reverting to a back 3 to utilise Luiz strengths, whilst releasing the pace and attack play of our current full backs.

He's been described as being very solid defensively but not offering a great deal in attack. Very much in the Sagna mould which I'd be all for when you consider he's played in the PL and would only cost £5 million.augie wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2020 2:24 pmNot top quality I agree, but we need a right back and he is an international right back at a low cost

SCUM have bolstered their attack after sealing a £27million move for Steven Bergwijn on a five-year contract.

I would think that inter want him for the run in and the spuds are desperate for the cash - they couldnt afford to replace fat tongue without raising funds first.rodders999 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 11:43 pmWhy the fuck have Inter paid 17 million to the scum for Eriksen when they could have gotten him for free in the summer?
And why the fuck would Eriksen go now rather than wait until the end of the season and trouser all the money from the transfer himself?
And if it is possible to get some sort of fee for a player in the last days of his contract how come we let so many walk out the door for nothing on recent years
If they dont make the CL next year they are truly fucked - their financial model to repay the loan debt relies on CL games up to the last 16 every season.
Their overspend on the stadium was £200 million - borrowed,
If they don't make the CL this year, theres going to be a big firesale over the swamp this year.
Which is good, because fuck them

It's news like this that makes me all the happier we moved from Highbury. How else could we compete with "Europe's elite" for these players?
I'm just hoping those cheeky rascals at Madrid and Barca don't try and beat us to this signing.

Cedric Soares in according to @David_Ornstein.
£5m loan fee. Interesting that Inter only paid about €1 million last year from about the same point in Jan.
He made 4 starts for Inter and they didn't activate the option to buy.
Big coaching job to get him back to his best.

mari in and looks like soares will be coming too. been crying out for defenders so certainly won't turn my nose up at these two.
both pretty solid but not box office, basically what you'd expect in january with a view to going big on someone like upamecano in the summer. both are loans anyway so low risk investments if they don't work out.
soares does make sense when you think about it, we need cover for bellerin and he can play at left back as well. so 2 positions we need cover for is now sorted which means no more midfielders in a makeshift defensive line up. not to mention the fact tierney seems to be a crock and bellerin will naturally pick up niggles as part of his recovery so im sure he'll get game time.
to be honest the more fresh faces we get in defence the better. we need to overcome the chronic mentality issue that plagued us under wenger and im not convinced many of the wenger lot can be saved, so the only way to build a new mentality is to bring new faces in. it'll also crowd out opportunities for the likes of mustafi so happy days.

Perhaps someone at the club does have a brain after all - the injury prone converted winger will be out again soon enough with a twisted ponytail, leaving Maitland Niles to be an absolute walking disaster again. If this boy is capable of actually tackling and has half a defensive brain he'll be an upgrade!

The smell of ambition is wafting through the air at the corporate bowl of staleness.
