Agreed - it has a special place in my memory as its the first one I really remember, being 10 years old at the time and kicking just about everything round the house and over the park as football mattered more than anything else. Football on TV was limited to cup finals and the odd England game so it was magical to see the lads from Brazil. Remember rushing home from school to see Robson score after 27 seconds or whatever it was against France. Happy old days!Nos89 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 11:23 pmSpain '82 remains the best world cup in modern football history. The last time a world cup had the quality of mystery of the teams from south america. After that players started coming to northern europr and adopting our style of football, killing off the south american flair.SteveO 35 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 8:34 amAll of that - plus the best England shirt in a lifetime. The only Ingerlund shirt I possess that 1982 retro vintage !Bradywasking wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 4:58 pmBest World Cup that I can remember was that one in 1982, I was seven in 1970 so I can remember that World Cup vaguely . Brazil were majestic , but came unstuck against the brilliant Italy in a game for the ages. Germany were cynical and their keeper Schumacher left a stain on the tournament. But France were the revelation..That semi final heartbreak against Germany was felt beyond France mainly because of Schumacher's assault on Battison.Gunner Rob wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 3:50 pmSocrates, Eder, Falcao....even though I was young i still remember that team more than any other Brazil side.Clash wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 2:42 pm
Nice to see someone use Brazil 82 instead of Brazil 70.
I wasnt born in 1970 but that 1982 side are still the team I am most in awe of and that world cup is still the best one Ive seen. Football had more of an aura back then but it was a lesson early in life that cynical sides with more nous like Italy will often triumph over more talented opponents. Although if Brazil's main striker Reinaldo (sp?) hadnt been injured before the tournament and replaced by the average Serginho then they might have won it.
just 24 sides as well that World Cup - now that was a PROPER tournament
Tardelli's celebration of his goal in the final is an iconic image..And England could have got to the final at least..Two big misses from Keegan and Brooking against Spain cost them a semi final place I think.
England were unbeaten in the world cup and due to the format of the competition went out on goal difference. Remember watching the opening 3-1 win aganst France. This was at a time when English teams were ruling Europe and genuinely could have clamied to hae the best league at the time.

you have to then ask what is the point of the bigger nations going through a qualifying stage.
a shame - what used to be such a great event has gradually been destroyed by greed.
They should take the moral high ground like the FAI did. Get a handballed goal against you, have it not spotted by any officials, then get your thieving corrupt bellend of a chief executive to publicly beg FIFA to let you in as "an extra team" because your fans are sooooo nice, and then just wrap yourself up in the resulting worldwide humiliation and ridicule.

It's gonna happen. It's gonna happen.
The famous void season of 2020!
How the fuck will the victims blame this on Thatcher and the Sun newspaper?

Superb couple of days football it has to be said. The "End Of An Era" in Middlesex football - I had no idea mediocrity waa classified or quantified in "eras" - and now another gaping hole in the Quadruple that was being mooted by victims and media morons before Xmas.
Statements of "CL doesn't matter" incoming from victims everywhere.

Everton’s first-team squad and coaching staff are undertaking a period of self-isolation following medical advice.
The step has been taken after a first-team player reported symptoms consistent with coronavirus. Finch Farm, Goodison Park and Royal Liver Building closed down.
