Glenn Hoddle ,any shits given ?
Glenn Hoddle ,any shits given ?
As a player I respected him and felt that England would be a contender if we had built a team around him rather than shackle him to a system that never worked .
As a man though he is a loathsome person who once contended that people with afflictions must have committed bad sins in their past lives and thus deserved what they got .
I have to say that's the first thing I thought of when I heard he had a heart attack ,I don't wish him dead or even ill but I'm having a complete compassion failure when thinking about him !
Now I know I am a cant but am I alone in this one ?

As a human I hope Hoddle recovers, as a footballer I thought he was exceptional, as a person I think his outburst on disabled people will be his legacy..He said it and that cannot be changed. As a pundit he is a biased prick who cannot help himself with Spurs..He is useless as a co commentator , Spurs v Barcelona he said the referee is giving everything to Barcelona, they are all frees but he is still giving them....What the fuck was the ref to do ? Not give frees that were frees out of sympathy .Hope Hoddle recovers, has a healthy life in the future and retires from media work with immediate effect.Herd wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 12:08 pmAs a player I respected him and felt that England would be a contender if we had built a team around him rather than shackle him to a system that never worked .

Like herd said, the first thing that came to mind when I heard about his heart attack, was that shocking comment about disabled people - if ever a guy is entitled to a painful death, he does cos that comment was as bad as they come
Like others have said, he was a gifted player in a time when beautiful technical football wasnt appreciated, but if he was playing in this era he would be priceless

Re: Glenn Hoddle ,any shits given ?
I don't wish him any harm but also don't have much sympathy for him after his reprehensible comments about disabled people. I have a younger brother with severe learning difficulties. I wonder what he did in a "previous life" to deserve the shit hand he's been dealt in this one.
Glenda was a gifted player but a shit manager and is a worse pundit. A total moron that cannot see past the vermin and the England team.
Romford tells a great story about Glenda dropping him after his hairdresser comments to that mad fucking old dear that Glenda had offering spiritual advice to the England team.

This is the actual quote from 1999
“You and I have been physically given two hands and two legs and half-decent brains,” he was quoted as saying.
“Some people have not been born like that for a reason. The karma is working from another lifetime. I have nothing to hide about that. It is not only people with disabilities. What you sow, you have to reap.”
I was stunned at the time ,I had two very healthy teen lads whose only handicap was having me as a father ,but it shocked me to the core.
I now have a 7 year old who is Autistic and it breaks my heart to see him struggle in our world but he didn't do anything ,it's just the cards he has been dealt .
Despite my past and online demeanor I'm a big old softie and can't understand views like that .

can't help but feel this is the perfect time to drag eileen drewery the old faith healer out of retirement. tell all the doctors to go home and leave it to the spirits
Re: Glenn Hoddle ,any shits given ?
It's all been said above, so basically the answer to Herd's question is 'No'.
Re: Glenn Hoddle ,any shits given ?
I have no problem with peoples beliefs, faiths or whatever they are free to believe anything they want and practice it in their own homes as long as they are not hurting anyone that's fine.
Lets be serious all the Garden of Eden Abrahamic religions are all pretty bonkers fairy stories ,yet they work for some people and all have some good positive thoughts in them as well as the BS but Ive heard the pitch and they don't add up for me ,but as long as your not doing harm or preaching horrible shit on others then cool.
My religion, subsitute family was Arsenal ,the family is still there ,I have mates Ive known for 40 years plus !

Well put, old chap. Quite what the fuck Glenda was puffing or drinking back then who knows? The man went fucking bonkers and although he seems a decent bloke, you do have to wonder about the mental stability of a man who makes statements like he did. At the time I remember wondering whether he tried to say something different and came out with this but the more you read what he said and think back to that time and the faith healer nonsense, the more it becomes clear that he either fully believed that shit or went mad. Anyway, I hope he recovers from the heart attack and that he just goes away and sits by a beach or in the countryside or wherever and doesn't disturb anyone or offend a whole huge group of people. Just by the way , I've always had you down as a bit of a softie. I bet you give a lovely cuddle.Herd wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 2:56 pmThis is the actual quote from 1999

Re: Glenn Hoddle ,any shits given ?
He was a born again Christians a group that scare me shitless ,they believe that everything in the bible is 100 pct correct ,anyone who doesn't accept that is dammed to hell for them.
Some of them are pure thick Nazis but I had a colleague in NYC who I sat next to ,who was well educated a chemical engineer and a lovely man ,we got on really well but he would weird me out by telling me I was a good man but dammed unless I was born again .
His wife died in the world trade center on 9/11 ,I was in Singapore at the time . When I heard of his loss I called him up to offer my condolences ,his wife was lovely we had been out for diner many times over the years .
When I called him he sounded happy and content and I put that down to delayed shock but he told me there was no reason to be sad as it was all part of Gods plan and all would be revealed to him in Heaven.
The following year I was in NYC and called him up ,I didn't work in the same company anymore and he invited me over to his new apartment in Hoboken .
I went round and the place was stunning, they lived in a nice 2 bed place in central Manhattan before but this place was something else, overlooking NYC from the other side of the Hudson,he told me serenely that he had a massive payout on his wife's life insurance and mortgage protection on the old place, they had no kids .
He was a Movie buff and he had always said he would like a Home movie theater and he had one in the new place ,a 6 seater with a massive wide screen.
We spoke of his wife and I asked him how he was coping and he looked at me as if I was mad . He said he was very happy ,it was, as he had told me before part of Gods plan for him,he wanted a home movie theater and the good lord had provided it for him.
It was proof positive that God loved him and wanted him to have it ,he also told me that good (material) things would come to me if I only would be born again.
I kind of freaked and tried to tell him Id rather have my family than material goods but he insisted I didnt understand because it wasnt wrong to want things and the way that God delivers them isnt ours to question
I havent been in touch since ,I found his faith difficult to deal with.Whilst I understand grief won't bring anyone back or change what has allready happened I find it hard to accept it's part of a master plan.

I often think I'd choose a decent home entertainment system over my wife.
But seriously though, that's just weird

No shits given. Either way.
Just like no shits given about the Leicester owner. Can understand why he might have meant a lot to the players and that club, but you’d think he was the father of modern football the way that some people are going on.
It’s just grief porn where people are falling over themselves to make clear how personally offended or affected they are.

I have an 5 y/o autistic grandson & life will be a challenge for him and the rest of the family. I too wish Glenda well & remember his football skills over any comments he made in the past. We all make slips of the tong (unless they're referring to Scum).Herd wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 2:56 pmThis is the actual quote from 1999

Wish Mr Hoddle well, true about the statement made and has done well to stay in the media eye where Mr Atkinson "Big Ron" got fecked, not that I give a fuck but I am such a nice forgiving man....
