Thank You for Taking an interest - PHW RIP

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

100 years of history the family have with the football club and most of the time it was a perfect match but unfortunetly for Peter his tenure run into the birth of the money men ,sky and precious supporters
If his dad would have said "thank you for your interest " at the annual general meeting in the 70s 80s no body would have raised an eyebrow
they would have expected it

RIP Peter Hill Wood

Difference being his father would have meant it in a genuine way rather than patronising small shareholders who love the club, ultimately more than our “custodians” did.

Sold out for the money, no tears shed by me.

If being precious is not being happy when he sold 100 years of the family silver to Wiggy (despite protesting in his Etonian pomp that "we don't need his sort") and abusing and criticising any fans who dared to question our ambition, then you're damn right I'm precious. Quite what being born into the family dynasty has to do with anything too, god only knows. I doubt I'd have liked every member of my family going back hundreds of years

I wouldn't celebrate the death of anyone but nor am I going to be a hypocritical twat either and bore on about what an Arsenal man he was. The Arsenal man who sold Arsenal

It wasnt only that , he actually said to the shareholders "thank you for taking an interest in OUR business" - not YOUR business, the business you either bought or inherited shares in, but no he referred to it as his business as if he had ever bought a share in the club  That for me was more disrespectful than anything any other club owner has done (and I include mike Ashley and Freddie shepard in that), but yet he seemed to have got a free pass from journo's and fans alike   :censored: :censored: :censored:

Quite what Dein has got to do with it I don't know, but nice attempt to deflect the criticism away from PHW. The bloke came out publicly against Kroenke and then oversaw/approved of all the xenophobic shit going round when Usmanov was a potential suitor in the background. I don't know if Dein loves Arsenal or not, and frankly I couldn't give a shit, although if he didn't then spending years trying to get back in with Usmanov was a funny way of showing he hated the club

Silly gin soaked old goat sold his legacy, so much for him & all the other "custodians" who cashed in after decades of non investment in the club. :cussing:

Are there any owners who actually support the club left, Joe Lewis at the Middlesex Swamp Dwellers, another overseas tax dodger seems to be the only one? :censored:

Ze Germans have the right idea clubs should be owned 50% by the fans! :barscarf:

Surprised not to see a post on here yet following the announcement of PHW’s passing, so here it goes.

I know a lot of people resented PHW towards the end of his tenure, mainly it seems for not getting Wenger out of the club, but I would like to pass my condolences to his family and thank him for the years of service to the club from 1962 until stepping down in 2013. RIP

It's sad to hear that the family association has ended. Like the last decade under the previous regime, it didn't have to end in such bitterness and resentment.

Not the same feeling with Hill Wood as there was with Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha is there. Two opposite ends of the spectrum, one an Etonian totally out of touch with the fans of our club the other a self-made billionaire who treated Leicester City fans with the utmost respect.

Hence the lack of Media interest.

I am still angry Hill-Wood sold out to Kroenke who hasn't put a penny of his own money into the club. It's all organic growth and he has benefited from it. A loss for his family but not Arsenal FC.

Yep. Im not sure where this sudden regard for Peter has sprung up from - he was NOT his father or his grandfather.

Samuel and Denis built the club - peter sold it out. Denis took great pride in The Arsenal being known as The Bank of England Club, never in a million years would he have traded the Marble Halls of Highbury for a bigger stadium nor would he have trashed our Crest.

He was a typical thid generation posh twat, spending away his grandfathers legacy.

And just like ex-manager i will never ever forgive him for selling out our club .

Don’t care nearly enough about this port-swilling, piss-soaked, spineless, out of touch sack of shit to even think about celebrating his death, but anybody pretending to give a fuck needs to give that shit a rest. Leave that sort of grief porn to Liverpool fans.

The bloke inherited a fortune and sold off the family legacy to the highest bidder after arrogantly proclaiming that we don’t need his sort. Despite apparently having no fucking idea about football he still stuck around to disrespect fans at every opportunity. Can’t see why any genuine Arsenal fan would miss this bloke.

For anybody interested, even after selling out and despite his sickening wealth the bloke continued to bleed the club of 75k a year for his services to do fuck all. Pennies in the grand scheme of things but as a point of principle it sums up the guy and dispels any myth that he was a dedicated servant of the club. Thank fuck he doesn’t appear to have some greedy prick offspring to continue milking the club and mugging off the fans.

It's the passing of a byegone age. His family did so much for the club and deserve the credit for that but selling out to Kroenke broke the mould and the club lost it's aura at that point.
