What did the KFC stand for? Was it the Keep Fucking Club Winterslag and did they play in red shirts that flashed on and off in night games.

Ah Winterslag, the kicker shop ,their supporters club and the free beer and easy access to the ground, the Turkish miners ,the high street windows, the army trucks, the rain, the rock that hit Terry Neil after he asked me a silly question. Oh what a night.

Just looked it up and we had Raphael Meade up front,a player I had completely forgotten about. Our other great striker Hawley was dropped.Have we ever had in our history worse strikers then them two.

I’m fast approaching the “defeat and greater good” mentality.

Winterslag - there's a blast from the past! One of the first, if not the first, European game my old man ever took me to. The disappointment started there and I was only a little lad at the time.

From winter slags to master BATEing

We must be due to play VFL Fiveknucklesuffle at some point soon?

Ray Hankin ?

The newspaper headline was (and I will never forget it)
“I’ll make the fans forget Stapleton” when he signed - don’t know how many games he played but it wasn’t many - reckon Rapheal Meade scored more goals (he got a hat trick one you know )

Ah, it’s nice to stroll down memory lane every now and then

Without looking it up I think Ray Hankin only played twice for Arsenal..The Rapheal Meade hat trick was against Watford pre Christmas 1983 in what I think was the first game after the sacking of Terry Neill..Next game he got two at the Lane on Boxing Day in a 4-2 win with Charlie Nicholas getting the other two.

I might be doing him an injustice especially as he had a serious injury but from the memory of the times when I was attending most games i didn't rate him at all.I have thought of one that might of been worse and that was Lee Chapman.

Lee "Stella Artois" Chapman? How would anyone know?

IIRC he made about 20 appearances and scored only 3 or 4 goals. And my mate John was ecstatic when we signed him. "A proper quality striker" was the quote that he still gets reminded about to this day.

Lee Chapman was one monumental failure. He had his season in the sun with Leeds Utd ten years later. Things were so bad after Chapman's signing that Im sure I remember Chris Whyte being played as a striker.

John F......are you serious? Raphael Meade was a hundred times better than any of these (most of them Wenger ‘Qualitee’ signings).

Fabián Caballero
Marouane Chamakh
Lee Chapman
Tomas Danilevičius
Kaba Diawara
John Hawley
Júlio Baptista
Ryo Miyaichi
Chu-young Park
Yaya Sanogo
