Home to Burnley Sat 17th 12.30

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Not sure if any of you plebs know this or not but there’s a group of lads who’ve all been allowed by the club to sit together this season (at the back of block 26 as far as I can remember) to try and get some singing and chanting going on inside the ground. Think they were/are going by the name of Ashburton Army.

So far so good yeah and I’m fucking all for anything or anyone who’s out to improve the atmosphere on match day. So what’s the issue you ask?

Well, the issue is that for the first 4 home games of the season, starting Saturday, the club have agreed to let them bring a drum inside the ground on a trial basis

Now the lads know there’s already a lot of opposition to the idea of a drum and are promising that it will only be used to enhance songs as they’re being sung and it won’t just be some fucker inanely banging away on it for 90 minutes for no reason.

Have to say I’m not over the moon about it but I suppose I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and see how it works out Saturday.

Thoughts?

Oh fucking hell a new low. Thought at first the club had allowed Burnley fans to bring one, you know because they're a shit northern club and they love that sort of thing up there. But no it's us. Hopefully I'll be far enough away in the North Bank upper not to hear it.

Unfortunately mate, I dont think there will be any part of the ground where you wont be able to hear it. That's the idea and its the nature of a drum.

The bit that got me was '' it will only be used to enhance songs '' ... they're not f**king Keith Moon are they? Proper football songs do not need drums anyway. If they do then we're not doing it right!

What with utter shite like ''Sweet Caroline'' blasting out at the end of every game, I feel I'm being personally targeted. They'll be playing music over the tannoy when we score a goal next :banghead:

there's a gooner fanzine from 1997/98 season where a teenage g88ner wrote in and suggested a drum be used at Highbury to improve the atmosphere, using Blackburn as an example of it working well

20 years on, I'd tell the teenage g88ner to fuck off for having such a shite idea

All for improving atmosphere, but a drum is a terrible idea, and i would think will come under heavy abuse

Fucking HATE drums and bands at football. Fuck off. It's small northern club shit. :censored:

Also hate cum gargler Dyche. Another fully paid up member of the shit managers merry go round that gets hailed as a genius by the meeja because he has somehow avoided relegation with Bornleh.

Expect the usual complaints from the cum gargler, the usual shit small club chant of "same old Arsenal always cheating", and now add a fucking twat with a drum into that shit mix of utter bollocks. :censored:

The fans only sing one song anyway, ‘we love you Arsenal.......’
It’s not much for the drummer to learn! :banghead: They need a group of 50 somethings at the back of the stand to sing old school chants!!

Most of them are scattered all round the country watching it in the local boozer

As for Burnley they will be no pushover, set up well and aggressive no doubt, but think we will break them down 3-1 to the Arsenal

Granit Xhaka is a doubt for Arsenal’s first home game of the new season against Burnley having suffered bruising to his lower back and leg in the win over Newcastle United.

Willock, Torreira and Ceballos in midfield.

Hello....you called  You are right but us 50 year olds can't always be bothered to lend our voices to the strains that can occasionally be heard at the bowl. Quite frankly it's beneath me to have to start chants at my age.....what is wrong with our youth.

The drum is a completely wanky idea, typical of current day 'fans' and has just ruined my day, Wtf has happened to society. Fat fuckers wandering around the ground thinking they're celebrities because they are involved with a wanky internet channel. Even worse are the fucking idiots who fawn all over them (no rodders it doesn't mean that) encouraging them to be even bigger idiots than they already are.

Somehow the chants have basically descended into the extremely dreary 'Ar -se - nal' chant.....it's utter shit but for many of our lot at the bowl it would appear to be within the reach of their IQ to remember it. The days of the old NB going through a song for most of the players has long since gone as have most good things about the Arsenal. The day that the mickeys decided to cause mayhem at Hillsborough basically killed off football sounding the death knell for terraces as Atmosphere fuck.ed off with a last wave over her shoulder.

So I'm all for giving the sing song section a proper go but ffs have some dignity and leave the drum at home you twonk. That said you know that the fact that a drum is involved means the people behind this are all called Tarquin.

"They came back to train with us on Tuesday. We had it off but they came back to start training. Mesut didn't train yesterday with illness but he trained today. They are both good options, I will take the decision if they can be with us on Saturday, we will wait for tomorrow." - Unai

So he came back to train for 1 day and already decided that was enough to take the next day off. Absolutely unreal.

The players used to come out for the warm up 1 or 2 at a time each one received to his own song, they loved it and the Police band, big games fans being escorted around the pitch.....
