Headline:Breaking down every Arsenal goal kick against Watford and who is really to blame for collapse

https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/ ... l-16925270

Basically Emery wants to play out from the back because Leno isn't good enough to Distribute for Himself!

We should sell while we can in JAN & get a Better Qual Keeper [ Taller than JUST 6ft too] that can find a Striker with ease & consistency!

what sort of world are we living in when an Arsenal goal kick makes me nervous?

as bad as sokratis' mistake was, it felt inevitable given how many times we rode our luck playing out from goal kicks.

totally unnecessary at 2-0. why give them any encouragement?
Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores claimed they had been working on pressing Arsenal’s short goal kick in training all week.

Not addressing the defensive situation is criminal negligence
Could have sworn we bought Tierney and Saliba. Both our starting left and right side are out long term injured as well as having to replace Kos. If everyone was fit how many of our current lot would actually start. Not making excuses as the backups clearly aren't good enough but the defense has been poor for years and is going to take several windows (and possibly a change of management) to fix IMO.

I don't think that anyone could disagree that 3 out of what is sure to be our best back 4, were not available Sunday - I'm not saying that they will cure all our ill's, but I will say is that loads of fans have bemoaned our ongoing defensive issues and emery's inability to fix them, when in 2 months time we might be saying differently when Tierney, holding and bellend are back and caught up on match fitness.
It also should be remembered that saliba is another person bought to upgrade our defence, and he wont be here until next season too

One thing I dont get though with Saliba.....

If he's going to be that good with one seasons experience elsewhere under his belt, is he not already better than the current options we are playing?

He can't be much worse can he?

Sky raved about how exciting this game was but for me this sort of game is everything wrong with modern football.

It was laughably bad from start to finish! A real lack of professionalism, organisation and quality.

Football is all about entertainment these days and they are just selling a product. The game has been hijacked and with TV's ever increasing influence we get embarrassing games like this on a regular basis. The media then tries to brainwash us into thinking the game has never been better.

Think you are being a touch unfair on the younger players DB..I'm not saying they are World class but they have being introduced to a calamity of a squad which despite the desired getting shut of Wenger haven't improved in terms of application or attitude.
Xhaka said that the team were afraid of Watford..Well welcome to our World Xhaka, we are scared witless every time you are picked and every time the ball goes near you.
Maitland Niles is being played out of position , replacing a player who was always going to be out a for a year ir so. We had an unsuitable replacement in Lichsteiner who was thankfully got rid of..Instead of getting a replacement Emery has continued with Niles who is not a right back in a back four and isn't much better in a back five..Like Chambers at Swansea a few years back Maitland Niles will be destroyed as a footballer by Emery. Speaking of Chambers he reinvented himself, was good against Atletico Madrid season before last , followed by having a good season on loan, albeit at a relegated club..Plays first game of the season , clean sheet achieved and is subsequently dropped for a clown called Luiz.
When I look at the squad I think there is a top four team in there, as suggested earlier that is down to the lack of quality outside Victims and City. The problem is selection and game management. That is down to the manager. Like most Arsenal fans I was fatigued by the Wenger out years and wouldn't want to face into anything similar again..but one lesson learned from Wenger's over extended reign is that no Arsenal manager should ever have such a hold on the club again. I'm not saying Emery out but he needs to produce or be replaced. I am getting less convinced by the week that he has what it takes..
Tbh Brady I don't think I was being that harsh. They were absolutely hopeless. Manky-Piles in particular. It's one thing to get ass raped by a top class player, but Delafou is a complete one trick pony and gets promptly put in their pocket by 90% of the PL right backs. But Manky-Piles fell for that one trick over and over again. That's not just a player being played out of position that's a shit player that can't even adapt to an obvious and easily fixed situation.

Who knows - the 3 players I lambasted may yet come good but yesterday they were utter gash.... and in Manky-Piles' case he's been gash for months, even when played further forward.

The 3 of them remind me so much of Walcott and thd Ox. All over hyped potential that never gets fullfilled. Hope I'm wrong but I'd bet I'm not.... :(
I take your points DB , I think they are too young to write off..Journalists tried to destroy Tony Adams from an early age. Admittedly players like Adams were made of sterner stuff and came from a tougher era. Adams rose above that . I am not saying any of the three players will ever rise to his heights but to write them off already is far too soon.
What I do take issue with is the "name" you have given Ainsley Maitland Niles. It is juvenile schoolyard name calling. You and this forum are better than that. Maitland Niles is an Arsenal player and also a human being, he may be an awful footballer, that is for debate on a forum, but I don't believe such disrespectful nicknames should be used to try enhance your opinion on his merits or otherwise as a footballer. I love banter and slagging off players including our own. I have been on this forum for over ten years and have enjoyed it immensely, but maybe at my age I am too old for it or its content.

So that's sorting the defence is it?
The way they defend , the total lack of organisation, they are a fucking laughing stock
We needed a top quality centre back in the last window, and a top 4 spot end of season, we got wanker Luiz?
Absolute fucking joke at present, what with this obsession about playing out from the keeper when clearly its a fucking gift to the opposition
Emery looks like he's struggling

Hoping Tierney can do a job, have a feeling he's going to be decent
Bellend Good pace or at least before his injury, can he really defend?
Luiz does he really give a fuck?

Get the two fullbacks in along with Holding and get DL out asap.

Stick Torreira back in the side to play a holding role in the midfield and get Xhaka the fuck out of the side - things can surely only get better from there.

Thats the sensible approach, will Emery follow it?

It is all very well saying that, but injuries dictates who we can actually play now. Bellerin and Tierney are long term injuries and Luis is just a short term replacement for Kos who wanted out.

If he changes anything FFS let it be this playing out from the back, all the premier teams know it and are planing for it, even if we do somehow manage it all done in a state of panic.
