As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
This piece from an article on sky's website would trouble me greatly -
"Arsenal's head of football Raul Sanllehi has links with agent Jorge Mendes, who has close ties with Wolves. Technical director Edu has links with Kia Joorabchian. The agents are likely to be involved in the appointment of a new head coach."
What about Simeone? Could we persuade & afford him?
Doesn't speak English, has no inclination to learn and it and doesn't want to manage outside Spain.
Other than that he'd be perfect
Allegri doesn't speak English either does he?
He's been learning for a while now and has been living in London apparently in preparation for a PL job.
Right ok, still doesn't mean it's great has anyone heard him speak English , I'm not convinced by Allegri , has only managed in the Italian league and always had money and we certainly won't see dynamic football.
Not convinced he would come without a good spending budget .
Arsenal see former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino as a credible option to succeed the sacked Unai Emery as head coach. How the 47yo Argentine would view an approach is unclear, but he is among the #AFC candidates @TheAthleticUK: https://t.co/Bp0kSK9Wb9
I saw someone dismiss Santo on this thread. For me, he is a very good realistic option. The problem with Managers like Allegri is will they want to join a club that is in effect in decline, and not willing to spend what's required to put things right.
Wolves have given all the top sides tough games since they were promoted, and Santo has done this without any marquee signings. He has turned headless chicken Traore for example into a very good powerful direct attacking player. We need someone to personally guide Pepe into fulfilling his potential.
Emery fundamentally failed because he couldn't make any progress on putting right either of the two things that have plagued us for a decade - 1) we can't fucking defend - at all; and 2) we are soft as shit, at every level.
We need to look at every potential candidate that comes through the door and ask if he is the person that we should put our faith in to address those two things.
Santo at Wolves is a good manager and, in different circumstances, might be worth a shot. Not now though, chances are he would be another Emery. Arteta may one day be an excellent manager - he was an intelligent footballer, came through the ranks at Barcelona and has worked with Guardiola for a few years - but he would never get the time he would need to cut his teeth and shape the team how he wanted.

Has to be Allegri doesn't it?
Absolutely Nb,must be a fair pile of wedge getting fired on him aswell cos his price has come in considerably at the bookies.

Well this was him giving his English a go last year and he's been in training since then so the signs are good.
I agree that our budget may put him off but we surely still need to try. Failing that who are you convinced by? This is our last shot at maybe getting a top drawer manager who just maybe able to sort out our current rabble of a team. After that we are probably into the unprovens of Santo, Arteta, PV and so on. I wonder whether Freddie might just prove that he's upto the job as that wouldn't be the worst outcome but that will depend on how quickly Allegri says yes or no.
Dynamic football....what's that - haven't seen that in a while. I'd settle for a solid balanced team for a bit personally.
I honestly think that allegri can be got even without a massive transfer budget IF we had a board willing to do a full court press for him, but I don't think that we have a club willing to do that. Despite what many would have you believe, this is not a team in need of major surgery - it is a team that needs serious organisational coaching (which Italian coaches are expert at), and needs a major kick in the bollox and some serious motivation, but it is not as talent deficient as many seem to think. Yes it needs a serious upgrade at the centre back positions, and we can certainly upgrade a few positions where the talent level is ok to the point that we can get by with until we have addressed other higher priority positions. I suppose it comes down to what fans are expecting - getting to the level of citeeh and the victims will take at least 2-3 years, but we definitely have a more talented squad than every other team imo. People need to remember that we reached a champions league final with a back 4 that included senderos and flamoney, purely because they were well coached by keown (c.unt), and good coaching can mask talent levels.
If we give allegri the power to structure the coaching around his methods and his people, and if we allow him to have a prominent say on transfers, then I think the prospect of developing this young team would be appealing to him and especially if he wants to rid himself of this reputation as a cheque book manager that can only work with older players
