The millionth dig at Arteta.

Mate, I can’t get my head around the logic of how you can be so rational in your assessment and understanding of the troubles emery faced in his 18 months yet, in contrast, constantly belittle and ridicule Arteta for suffering from the same struggles? :?
I'm not belittling him - I just can't believe that there are people who wrote off an entire 22 match unbeaten run as being 'lucky' and 'unconvincing' and yet everyone I spoke to yesterday (even the most ardent gooner) says we were crap and lucky to win. Hardly been the first time either eh?

Just can't accept the double standards of judgement.

I don't remember anyone on here writing off the entire 22 game run as lucky. There were plenty of shit games along the way and there were some that were pretty good. There was no real pattern of play or system that evolved during Emery's reign and that's just that.

Not that I'm particularly bothered about Arteta, but for your own information, your posts certainly sound like somebody belittling Arteta. As for double standards, I'm just not getting that from the posts I've read.....I can see some people daring to hope but not much beyond that.

100% it was said on here during the week Jock - as I have said many times, arteta and any other manager we appoint will struggle as long as we have players of the mentality of these *word censored*, but I object to arteta being defended for that reason whilst emery was supposed to work magic with those same players
But emery came to us with a lot of experience and a certain amount of pedigree yet peps cone man is more than matching what he did so far ,so either take it as Emery really was truly shit and so is arteta or Emery did well with a load of crap and arteta with zero experience is working wonders?? You cant defend emery then slate arteta ,for a bloke who's never managed hes doing well in a very high pressure job
How the hell you have worked that out when Emery went 22 games unbeaten within his first few months at the club and then got us to the EL final, when Pep's Cone Man had us rolled over by a bunch of stiffs who couldn't win an away game in Europe if their lives depended on it......

Honestly I give up

I can understand people having reservations about Arteta but pining for the Spanish David Moyes who had us the playing the worst brand of absolute shit football week in week out is completely baffling to me.

Some levels of Stockholm syndrum when you’re longing for the days of a team on its knees shambolically coughing up 31 attempts to fucking Watford

Not pining for it, but nor am I in love with the even more sterile, slow paced, boring load of shit being served up every week now either !

Of course the 13 shots conceded at home to Leeds in one half, and 12 to West Ham yesterday are nothing short of a miracle

Lets see how this massive defensive improvement shapes up on Weds night when its Aguero, Sterling and De Bruyne as opposed to Bamford, Antonio and Rodriguez

SteveO I know you’ve a hard on for that 22 game unbeaten run early last season but I’d like to hear your thoughts on the following please -

Unai Emery’s Arsenal from the Palace home game last season until the day he was sacked?

And just to add that using that 22 game unbeaten run as a badge of honour in a season that turned out to be an absolute cluster fuck is something you (and I) would have rightly lambasted Wenger for.

If I close my eyes I can actually hear the fucking words coming out of his mouth after he was asked if he was no longer the right man for the job -

“nobody speaks about the 22 game unbeaten run”!!

As meaningless as the calendar year trophy, we could have gone 30 games unbeaten for all I care - all that matters is the season went down the shitter by the time it was over.

Seriously people talk about hypocrisy and double standards then apply the same logic to back up their own arguments, so simple facts we were shit yesterday but we won, under Emery generally when we were that shit we lost. Interesting that the 22 game winning run is used as the marker because not long after that we started playing shit under Emery and never really recovered so what happened?

Arteta is showing his lack of experience/ability and understanding and the performances aren't great but other than the loss to Olympiacos we've still managed to get results, just for the record that's the first time we've managed 3 wins in a row in the league this season, he might not be good but he is lucky :rubchin:

Xhaka pissing away possession then tracking back as if he’s wearing concrete boots is a tragic sight.

Hate the prick :banghead:
One of the constants in our woefully piss poor play over the last 4/5 seasons slowly backwards and forwards between defence and him ....then give it away in a dangerous place.

Replace him with a proper hardworking ball winner who can actually pass it forward occasionally and we instantly improve - hope his move to Hertha Berlin was only postponed till the summer.

STAT CHECK. In artetas first 15 games in charge we have conceded 12 goals, emerys last 15 games in charge we conceded 28.
I was never much good at maths but even I can see that is a massive turn around.arteta must be doing something right

Two responses markyp -

1. I have no problem with the suggestion that arteta is doing as well as emery (although I do think that is debateable if I'm honest), but my issue is when people claim that he is doing better than emery - on what kind of a sliding scale are we doing better ? We have turned in some woefully shit performances under arteta (as we did with emery), so how can that be classed as improvement ?

2. Secondly, and I know some might view this as harsh, but I don't think that arteta's lack of experience can be used as an excuse - he is manager of The Arsenal so allowing him to get a few years experience whilst in the job does not work for us. Rightly or wrongly the board felt that he is the right man for the job now. Aretta obviously feels that he is ready for the job NOW, so should he be given a few years grace to learn his trade ? I honestly cannot see how a club like ours can afford to give any manager a few seasons grace

It's sunday and I'm too tired/lazy to check out these stats, but how do we compare on goals scored then - with exception of a few games, we looked totally devoid of an attacking threat

Augie you’re being deliberately obtuse now (either that or you’re talking out of your hoop again  )

Absolutely nobody has said that Arteta should be given a few years grace to learn his trade at Arsenal. Nobody.

What people are saying (myself included) is that 14 games in charge after coming in mid-season to manage a team was that was on its fucking knees and flirting with relegation is way too soon to be calling him a dud and wanting him to get the sack.

Ancelotti’s Everton just got fucking rinsed 4 nil by Fwat Fwank. Should he be derided and face the chop do we think?

Just sayin’.

Artetas lack of experience is no excuse, but what it tells you is that he is doing no worse than emery with no managerial experience at all,so in that case if arteta isnt the man for the job then emery must have been awful to be out done by a YTS boy

The games against Palace, Wolves and Leicester in quick succession were really, really poor. Nobody could defend those performances and I'm not trying to. The two games against Valencia were really good, and in between that were it not for the most brain fart defensive moment from Xhaka we'd have sneaked out an Arteta style 1-0 win against Brighton which ultimately would have seen us get a CL place. The next game up we ripped Burnley apart at theirs, before the absolutely awful EL final performance

So we had 4 poor performances in that run in - unfortunately the EL final was the worst of the lot.

After that we had a clear out and I started this season full of hope

In our first 14 games of the season we lost two games - the 3-1 loss at Anfield which wasn't great but they were slapping just about everyone at that time. Sheffield Utd away 1-0 - fine margins in that game. We lost the Carabao game on pens which nobody seemed to care about before drawing with a Wolves side looking to qualify for the CL and who everyone is raving about then beat Vitoria. Defeat at Leicester (again beating just about everyone at the time), before a lucky Arteta style late draw against Southampton and a loss to frankfurt when we were already virtually through the group

It was inconsistent at times, but nowhere near as bad as everyone is making out here.

The league games we lost under Emery this season were Liverpool away, Leicester away and Sheffield United away and have a look at their respective records and where those teams are this season and its hardly a disgrace is it?

Anyway, I can't be arsed any more - I'll let all the Arteta luvvies ***** themselves silly and have the last word. Rip the 22 games to shreds, ignore the fact the team over performed until those last few games of last season and the fact that we only lost 3 league games this year (all away to teams going for the CL places).
