In far more relevant and current news I see that Germany's leading govt scientist has said that 7 day isolations are sufficient and 14 days is not required. Also said that a second wave can be defeated now that they know a lot more about the virus. No mention of lockdowns.

I see the Norwegian PM admitted on TV this week that her response to covid was guided more by fear than judgement. Very brave of her.
It is when you don't have the keystone cops in power. Germany can be confident they will contain any second wave, my question is if they do will we take any notice or stick our fingers up in the air as usual.

What's the opposite of fear, blind faith perhaps. Fear is treating a risk seriously.

Waiting for the outrage to begin against a democratically elected MP who breached lockdown. A party whip too........... :anyminute:

It's ok she was probably only looking after her kid......oh she met up with a married bloke for a bit of "long walking" :rubchin:

Doubt if the Guardian and Mirror have that splashed all over their front page today  Stones and glasshouses huh
She resigned from the front bench quite rightly too, it's a non-story. From what I see the Guardian isn't sticking up for her.

Petition on change.org calling for the removal of Cummings. Please sign and share if you agree it’s the right course of action. Approaching 1.1 million signatures which proves there’s a lot of anger out there at the comtempt and hypocrisy.
Jock - don’t worry about replying as we all know your stance on this.

Sure there is a lot of anger out there but is it really about Cummings nipping off to Durham ?
Is it about Brexit and removing Johnson ? or
Is it just plainly about getting rid of the Tories ?

As the protests in London outside the American Embassy proved yesterday it's easy to whip up a storm when people are frustrated or politically motivated . This is just another example of bandwagon jumping to reach their political aims egged on by a media that doesn't like criticism which is full of bias with it's own axe to grind.

I agree there will be some using it as a political agenda, but I honestly believe that is a minority and most are just sickened by the Government’s performance, lies and hypocrisy. And when it involves the chief organiser, people have had enough.

as far as i am concerned Brexit is done and dusted.
I made my feelings known about that on here last year, but this issue has nothing to do with Brexit.

I am not sure it is all about Cummings nipping off to Durham though - basically it is a realisation that the government has managed this crisis really poorly. We locked down too late, we are opening up too early, the testing in this country is a shambles and we have the highest death toll in Europe.

for those reasons I would be criticising whoever was in power, whether it was a Labour or Conservative leader.
it just so happens that Johnson is leader so he should get the criticism. he reminds me of Neville Chamberlain - an equally weak PM at a time of national crisis.

the biggest problem I have with the government is that they just react to events - they are not capable of being pro active.

Sadly yes - events in America are evidence of a world where bandwagon jumping is all the rage, and the incident which initially caused the outrage, is left behind as others take over and sully what the whole protest  :censored: :censored: :censored:

It's entirely political despite what any claim on here. There are swathes of people out there who haven't accepted Brexit and the hysterical witch hunt over Cummings only goes to prove that. Remainers and the left have given it the faux moral outrage number and gone for him.......and missed. The fact that the Guardian and that shit rag the Mirror led the story might just tend to suggest it's political.

The left are more concerned by DC than Boris so threw the kitchen sink at him when the chance arose. The fact that Keir Starmer didn't pile in was noticeable but then Kinnock had already been caught and KS probably suspected there might be others. He was right but of course that doesn't suit the narrative so they all turn a blind eye to them as elected officials while they go after the anti-christ.

Spot on there Jock!
You've really got to forget this left/right thing. As others have said, Brexit is happening whether good or bad. But there are angry people out there, including staunch Tories, who have had enough of the lies, hypocrisy and incompetence, leading to the complete breakdown of the handling of this crisis.

Blind faith is not the opposite of fear. Fear also causes confusion and paralysis. I'm not belittling her, I welcome her honesty as there is going to be one hell of an establishment cover up over what has gone on in the UK. Honesty from politicians of other countries and their experts will be of greater relevance than a lot of the bs that we will be fed.

But tux, the truth is that even if you are a middle of the road, freethinking, island of one, the vast majority of those who are going after DC are not. The beeb had over 40k of complaints regarding the bile that Maitlis spat out last week. Apparently educated and decent people lose their shit when DC is involved. What could motivate that kind of hatred towards an adviser? Look at the responses to DC, Kinnock and the ex-whip lady. They are all accused of breaching lockdown but the response to DC is clearly disproportionate. Loads of people broke lockdown, plenty of people broke social distancing - does that really come as a major surprise to anyone.

You're still banging the political allegiances drum when the likes of Nigel Farage has been openly criticising Cummings. Large swathes of Tory heartlands want him out. There are people who are peeved at him over Brexit, but not everyone.

The protests outside the US Embassy were ridiculous, more from the risk of spreading COVID19 than any political purpose. The Americans have a choice this November, including the black community to kick out Trump. A lot of them voted for him last time. In saying that the US is so fucked up even an Obama administration couldn't stop police brutality towards black people.

Ffs are you for real  Cummings and Farage are not mates. Cummings made sure that Farage was excluded by the tories when it came to Brexit. Let him do all the legwork and then squeezed him out. Large swathes of the Tory heartlands are quite happy with Dom in place - once again you resort to your old favourite of just making shit up on the hoof. You really are priceless.

Cards on the table time nutty - who did you vote for in the last election and are you a remainer or a leaver. I'll make it easy for you.....I'm a tory leaver, you might have worked that out. I only ask because you seem to come across as the sort of person who is still confused by the fact that large swathes of the country don't actually agree with what you think.
