Now it's the Oscars!

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

The Oscars are nominated by members of the Academy who are only 2% African-American and 2% Hispanic.

That it is well out of kilter with the racial composition of the USA.

The USA needs to look at why so few minorities work in Hollywood compared to their percentage in the population, and make it more equal, considering there are lots of African-Americans making films and acting in them outside of mainstream Hollywood.

The Academy must be modernised to reflect the workers of the film industry as accurately as possible.

Generally award ceremonies are not a true reflection of talent anyway, that is the pinch of salt to be taken.
The Grammies?
They are generally about major Record companies dividing up the awards in order to promote their own acts.
No probs mate. I agree with a lot of what you are saying re the make up of the awarding body. What does my head in is the constant whining from the pc brigade,a lot of whom make a good living out of being offended, or demanding that the next James Bond, or the next Dr Who should be black, or that Harry Potter is racist because his three best mates are white.
I remember when the Labour Party was torn apart by Black Sections, Womens Sections, Youth Sections etc, and I remember at a regional party conference in London a bloke stood up and asked,"I thought that we were all in the same party," at which point a well known Black Lesbian,(I won't name her),replied, "We will never be in the same party, you are my white oppressor."
:coffeespit: That's hilarious!! NAME HER PLEASE!!

He should have replied with, "Well maybe you should try the cock then." :-P

I'm kidding - in case any PC Bitch gets his/her knickers in a twist.
But it's still funny, you miserable PC fuckers.

Can you imagine a black Doctor Who? That fucker would not be able to go back to any point in history.

One episode and that'd be it.

I was a bit wary of naming her because was/is a fairly well person in the Labour Party. She was the leader of a Labour council in South London, spent a lot of her time on trendy pc discussion type shows on Channel 4,and was the darling of the yoghurt knitting Islington left wing set. I will pm you if you still want to know

She must have felt very proud... :o

Hattie McDaniel became the first African-American to win an Academy Award—beating out her co-star Olivia de Havilland who was also nominated in the same category—but was racially segregated from her co-stars at the awards ceremony at the Coconut Grove; she and her escort were made to sit at a separate table at the back of the room.
And that in itself is despicable but given the prevailing attitudes in America at the time it makes her achievement of winning an Oscar even greater doesn't it?

Rugby

As much as I think this Oscars issue is a worthy campaign.....

...........I do not deny there are people out there who live a life looking for causes and bandwagons to jump on, always positioning themselves as a victim.

Mate of mine used to date a woman who can best be described as an ogre, she was full of lies, treated him like dirt and thrived on various campaigns against perceived injustices.
She is doing it now as a professional, grinding her axe as some sort of welfare class champion when in real life she came from a middle income home, went to a top university and has committed various finance related frauds to get cash.

I see Charlotte Rampling (who was on my to do list for many years from the 70's onwards) has suggested that the fuss over the Oscar nominations is racist to white people! It's a bit of a stretch but she may be suggesting that the best people win the awards regardless and arguing against any tokenism.

Chris Rock is scheduled to present the whole thing and is being put under pressure by certain members of the black acting community to not do it. That's a bit unfair on him. It started because Will Smith's wife was going to boycott it because he wasn't nominated. Problem is now are they going to bring in the Rooney Rule into acting awards? That would be a bigger insult to the black actors in the Hollywood community than none being nominated at all.
I don't recall Harrison Ford winning an Oscar for any of his roles and he's been the leading male actor in 6 of the biggest grossing films of all time. Sly Stallone has given us two of Hollywood's most memorable characters, not won an Oscar either. Lead actors in big blockbuster action movies never win or get nominated for awards, which I think is just a big a travesty as the whole genre that keeps Hollywood going largely gets ignored by the academy.

When it comes down to it, it's just a bunch of very rich people giving each other awards for speaking other people's words, doing what other people tell/show them to do and pretending to be someone else.

What is funny is you get the likes of 'will smith' who cannot act to save his fucking life saying he is going to boycott the oscars - Great! fuckoff you utter retard every film you have ever been in you play the same wise cracking ( well he thinks he's wise cracking- actually he's feckin embarrassing) wanker
-

It sounds like If you don't do what we want we're taking our ball home....neh neh neh nahhh

Bottom line - If an actor or actress is good enough and the role they play is worthy of nomination - regardless of their race/culture/background/creed/ religion blah blah blah...then they SHOULD be nominated - Also to suggest that those in the academy  are not voting for non-white actors etc - Means those complaining and protesting are (by inference) calling them bigots and racists....and that they are only voting for white artists...

The Oscars is all a pile of shyte anyway - It is designed Not to recognise greatness in the acting or film industry but to increase the profit of films in the industry...Just scrap the whole fuckin' thing....

I don't think it's fair on any of us, of any race or creed, that Chris Rock is presenting the oscars this year!!!
