The E.U's share of global output is falling and will soon represent just 15 per cent of worldwide gross domestic product, while 80 per cent of growth is emerging from countries outside the European Union, he said.

With an ageing population, Europe’s share of the world’s population has fallen from 20 per cent a century ago to seven per cent now, and could be just four per cent by the end of this century when the world reaches ten billion people. “We are demographically weakened, and will remain so,

So says Jean Claude-Juncker .

The warning over Europe’s comparative decline closely mirrors that of pro-Brexit campaigners who argue the UK should build ties with emerging economies rather than be “shackled to a corpse”.

I don't agree with that Rob - I think that it is obvious that Europe would prefer if the uk remained, but unlike Jock I believe allowing them back in is not the foregone conclusion he thinks it will be. Of course nobody knows until we see how things are going for Europe and the uk 2 years or so after Brexit, but if the eu is doing fine without the uk I think it the very least they would make the uk beg to get back in if they wanted to rejoin, (never gonna happen) and at worst refuse outright to let them back in

Obviously as an Irishman I am far more worried about how Brexit will affect our country than yours, but I still don't see how leaving will benefit the uk in the long term :? The big thing will of course be the ability to control it's own borders and have the right to refuse entry for refugee's that are likely to receive massive social welfare, but if international companies start leaving the uk then jobs will be lost and taxes received will be down and social welfare paid out will be up, and that cant be good

Anyway I wish to fcuk that there was some sort of conclusion to this mess on the horizon cos everyone must be sick of it now

Funnily enough, I would have voted to remain if the EU had taken Cameron seriously when he (almost) asked for a bit of reform. But they showed their true colours at that point and the waffle about us having any real influence was clear to see. The problem is that some countries are in it for ideological reasons and the other 95% are in it for the wedge! It would be interesting to see how much of a handout the Scots and N Irish got in future if they were allowed to stay but England and Wales no longer contributed - that might be an eye opener for them.

That is why the UK would be readmitted because to do otherwise would make the EU look petty and they will not turn down £10 - 20 billion if it is offered up. The French would be a problem because that is their way (De Gaulle / Common Market). Anybody else who got uppity about the UK rejoining would be firmly put in place by the Germans who would be delighted to have another large net contributer back in the fold.

The UK is big enough and ugly enough to look after itself. The EU are shit scared that we might succeed without them which potentially could lose them members (money and influence) and are just as worried that if things don't go well that we may resort to introducing an uber competitive business tax regime in order to retain any international companies who are tempted to bugger off. It all boils down to money at the end of the day.
But it isn't though, there are many industries that are declining purely because of the referendum outcome. Then we have given ourselves a bloody nose in industries that we do excel in eg Professional/Financial services. The French, Dutch, Germans and the Irish have been hoovering up business that we can't deal with because we are outside the EU.

There is a real false perception in this country that the UK is a global big hitter, we are like Arsenal under Wenger 5th or 6th by a long way.

Not surprisingly you are referencing a site, as usual, that has a bias towards one side of the argument.

In saying that you have contributors with more academic qualifications than you can shake a stick at, so at least they will talk some sense. The irony of these people being the "elite" that you so often deride in your pro brexit banter is not lost on me!

I am not going to scrutinise the whole article, it's addressing a lot of points and to be honest, it would take days to pull each point apart. I am going to highlight one paragraph though and say my two penneth:

"So last time after the Greek Crisis, why did the UK, who first said they would not help and then did, pay money into the Eurozone. Well, the principle of “Civil Protection” seems to have been invoked, and the Treasury accepted that it is essential to pay under our European Treaty obligations, so we paid”: in addition, the Commission have the possibility of a Financial Transactions Tax, to fill the gap, and the largest part of that will fall on the City. With no say under Robbins’ deal this could be ratcheted up and up without our having any say."

This article from the BBC, which if you have been following the discussion over the last few weeks, I have referenced suggests otherwise. I have highlighted the relevant part below.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics- ... m-36456277

The claim: The Vote Leave campaign is claiming that "UK taxpayers will keep paying for the huge bills caused by the euro crisis" and that "these bills will only increase".

Reality Check verdict: The UK will not pay for future eurozone bailouts. This has already been agreed by EU leaders. In addition, the UK-EU deal from February, which will be implemented if the UK votes to stay in the EU, reinforces this and states that the UK would be reimbursed if the general EU budget is used for the cost of the eurozone crisis.

In addition to this, the article categorically states that the UK did NOT make a payment via the EU to assist with the Greek bailout. Our contribution was made via the IMF. The Germans made the biggest contribution and have done very well out of interest payments.

For your information and you should be old enough to remember, the UK was bailed out by the IMF in 1976. Just as well everyone that bailed us out didn't have the same attitude as we do ehh!

Did you know the word “Tory” comes from the Irish word tóraí (meaning a bandit or outlaw).

#justsaying

The word “Labour” comes from the Irish word lábhór (meaning a lefty gobshite).

And the word “Liberal” comes from the Irish word líbháerél (meaning extinct).

All true. Except for the second two.

spot on.

increasingly it feels as though the UK is a dictatorship, and that the only support is coming from the EU.

This is some of the 400 or so on last weeks march ,not the 1 million that the remoaners claimed as the used fake pics to make it seem like there were more at the march . All the Media used fake photos of previous demonstrations including the Iraq demo and Royal occasions to make it look as if there were more .
Ever feel like you've been cheated to use a quote from my Pal ,have a gander at these two pearls !

Brexit is the joke that just keeps on giving. So after years even decades of being hardline Brexiteers, the ERG are one by one capitulating to the prospect of Brexit not happening at all.

Rees Mogg of all people to give in at this late stage and back the PMs deal is beyond the realms of gross hypocrisy. But I really wouldn't expect anything less from him.

1. sounds like you need to get out a bit more and experience the real world.
if you did then you would realise that there were at least 1 million people at the march.
anyone disputing that really is embarrassing themselves.

2. the video of Cameron is fair enough surely ? The government said that they would implement Brexit and they are giving it a good go.
Looks as though Jacob Rees Mogg is finally backing down, maybe Boris too and so the Brexit you want might therefore be allowed to happen.

Its nearer 400 or should I say less on the great Farage march from Sunderland down to Westminster. You know the one that he doesnt turn up to every day.

If the remain march didnt feature speeches from idiots like Tom Watson and Nicola Sturgeon, it would have easily eclipsed 1 million. Regardless, there no arguments was at least several hundred thousand on the streets. Arsenal regularly pull up 250,000 for trophy parades and thats in a very small area. This march covered much of Central London.

I'm just pointing out it wasnt a million ,Ive seen figures judging it at 2/3/400 k but a millions a great sounding figure .
I've seen how you can plump up or dumb down numbers .
The media and the BBC have been instrumental in subverting the Brexit process ever since the vote as have all the other media ,there has been a non stop avalanche of misinformation and plain lies from the very beginning. Some of the scare stories beggar belief .

When I lived in NYC there was a demo to protest about covert American ops in central America, it was the Regan ERA . The March went down 5th Avenue which was jammed full of people as far as the eye could see . This was a surprise for me as I had seen no media about it and it was before the internet ,I was intrigued and very pleased to see that not everyone in the US believed their Media which is far worse than ours for truth although we are catching up.
Union square was way too small to accommodate the vast hoards but I stayed and watched the speeches and looked forward to seeing the reports on the news. It took an hour to get the crowds through . None of the mainstream reported it at all ,and the local channel showed a clip of the Square before the crowds arrived making look like there was no-one there. The NY Times reported 10,000 communists had a demo and caused trouble (there was none).

No end of reports have been produced by so called independent bodies have been shoved down our throats all of them to convince us we were wrong .
Both parties said they would respect the vote in the last election but clearly haven't ,the treaty May was handed ties us to the EU ,it isn't Brexit ,it's been a Massive con.

I felt that we would be better out of europe completely and despite the mantras chanted after the vote we knew what we voted, for but of course I didnt know for sure any more than remainers ,but we should have prepared for it ,yet havent and are now held to ransom by greasy politicians whose only interests are themselves .

The uncertainty over the issue has for sure done damage to the economy and will do whatever way this goes from here they have made sure of that.
As usual it's the poor that suffer ,the evils of this government whizz past us unnoticed in all this ,I'm sure that's calculated too !
Its very sad to see so many people at each others throats over it ,the squabbles on here are just that and despite the name calling I dont have anything against Nuts or Rob.
I have more mates that wanted out including socialists like me after all Tony Benn was against the Eu as was Corbyn, but of course I have some that voted stay ,I respect their opinion even though I think it's wrong.

FArage ,is a 1 trick pony ,Im not a fan !
