Arsenal are urging chief executive Ivan Gazidis to resist overtures from AC Milan and guide the restructured club in the post-Arsene Wenger era.

Although majority shareholder Stan Kroenke has the final say on big decisions, the significant overhaul that has taken place in the past year is seen as Gazidis’s brainchild.

The process of transitioning away from the authority Arsene Wenger enjoyed to a more continental structure, where power and responsibility is divided, began towards the end of the Frenchman’s tenure, leading to widely reported friction between him and Gazidis.

Something of a power struggle developed but with Wenger now departed and Unai Emery installed as ‘head coach’, Gazidis has effected a sizeable change in the appointment of several backroom staff.

There are nine new department chiefs with Gazidis, head of recruitment Sven Mislintat and head of football relations Raul Sanllehi leading the day-to-day decision-making.

AC Milan’s approach for Gazidis comes at an interesting time. With Emery now in place, it could be argued Gazidis has completed his principal task, all the while helping to more than double the share price of the club he joined in January 2009.

Last October, Kroenke offered to buy Alisher Usmanov’s 30 per cent stake for £525million - £28,000 per share - which is a huge increase on the £11,750 the American paid in April 2011 to take control.

However, it is understood senior figures at the club are keen for Gazidis to remain at the helm to support Emery and manage any teething problems that arise from the restructuring.

Rumours circulated on Thursday night that Gazidis was on the brink of agreeing a deal with Milan but the club told Standard Sport no final decision has yet been taken. Josh Kroenke, Stan’s son and a fellow director, has taken more of an interest in the club’s affairs as he spends more time in London but Gazidis is hugely respected internally despite facing criticism from supporters in recent seasons, often relating to Arsenal’s transfer business, Wenger’s shortcomings or his own financial remuneration.

It was revealed last October that Gazidis earned £2.6m, including a £919,000 bonus, despite Arsenal failing to qualify for the Champions League.

Reviving Arsenal old guard is just as vital as new transfers for Emery
Milan are likely to be able to offer a significant increase on that salary, however, and speculation in the city suggests that the Italians could offer him some form of equity as a future pay day should the American hedge fund, Elliott Management, which owns the club, sell in the future.

Elliott Management last month took over control of the club and injected €50million (£44.6m).

Milan have been banned from this season’s Europa League due to a breach of Uefa’s Financial Fair Play rules and although Forbes lists them as the 17th most valuable club, a huge financial restructuring is required.

Gazidis has impressed Elliott founder Paul Singer’s son, Gordon, who is an avid Arsenal fan.

Ivan Gazidis - Thanks For Nothing

Post by 1989 »

The slimy bald weasel has fucked off to AC Milan at the start of a massive rebuilding job at the club. Cowardly move from a bloke who really brought fuck all to the club in his 10 years of service. Now that the Wenger shield is removed, he knows he'll be exposed for the fraud we all knew he was and jumped ship as soon as he could. Safe to say he won't be missed. :rubchin:

Notable quote:

"We should soon be able to compete with the likes of Bayern Munich".

If he's been pushed out to make way for Josh it makes some sense, but if after 10 years of being Wenger's puppet he has now chosen to walk away after just 5 months as a legit CEO it's absolute BANTER.

I would have been happy to give Ivan 2-3 years Wenger free to see exactly what he could do and prove that he really was working with his hands tied behind his back under Le Fraud.. To be fair in the last 12 months Raul, Sven and Huss Fahmy have come in behind the scenes and the "manager" and a shit load of the backroom team have been shown the door. You don't get more catalyst for change than that,

The next 3 transfer windows are crucial to give Emery the players he needs to get the team playing the way he wants, we have the £60m per annum Adidas deal on the horizon and with the dawn of a new age at the club the CEO bails for AC Milan to a league, that Juventus aside, is dying on it's own arsehole. As I said already if he hasn't been pushed and has chosen to walk of his own free will it's a sad reflection on the man.

Fuck the slimy snake. He did nothing to get rid of Wonga, he happened to be there when Kranky Snr got fed up with the empty seats and bad publicity, Gazidis did bugger all to get rid of him. There are many quotes from the snake which were bare faced lies or just plain shit, one of which I think was when Wonga signed his last contract and Gazidis sat in front of the cameras and said 'We looked around Europe and couldn't see anyone better to manage Arsenal'.............cue 6th place and 1 away win all season........Fuck off Gazidis, you useless puppet. :barscarf:

100% correct. This fucking myth that the Lizard got rid of Wenger is just that a fucking myth.

He tried the year before and Wiggy Racoon Features slapped him down like the no mark little bitch he is The empty seats and brand damage are the only reason Wiggy finally did his job and pulled the trigger on Wenger.

Fuck the Lizard. No loss whatsoever.

And as for his recruitment and contracts team? These arseholes just handed unearned improved contracts to Xhaka and Comedy Iwobi. What the fuck were they thinking? Who would have come in for those players? The jury is still out on these supposed contract experts.

To be fair DB10 contract extensions these days are as much about maximizing the resale value of a player as they are about tying the player down to the club.

Turnip head Harry Maguire recently signed an extension at Leicester after being linked all summer with a big money move away but that was only done to increase his release clause, he will still be fucking off out of Leicester in the next 12 months. I’m hoping the same reasoning was applied when Comedy Iwobi and the Swiss Turd got theirs recently.

Jack has walked for nothing when we should have bagged 15-20 million for him and 60-80 million was flushed down the shitter with Alexis because their contracts were allowed to run down.

Ox we got away with because Liverpool stupidly paid 40 million for a guy in the final year of his contract and Ozil was able to take the club up the ring piece and get a massive contract on the back of his contract being about to expire.

The new team were too late on the scene to prevent the latest saga with Sir-Flicks-A-Lot but hopefully he is the last player who’s contract is allowed to run down to the final months and the absolute shit way we have being doing business like that with contracts becomes a distant memory of the Banter Era.
