ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Just when I thought I'd forgotten about Silvestre and Squillachi at centre half, along comes the next closest thing......Jerome Boateng.
Fuck me - how low can it go if we sign that useless piece of shit

He has somehow perfected the art of looking shite despite playing for Man City, Bayern and Germany.......quite an achievement when you think about it !northbank123 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2020 9:17 pmMaybe he will only he half as much of a calamity at half the price though!

Arsenal have formally contacted Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich to express their interest in 31-year-old Germany defender Jerome Boateng. (Footmercato - in French)

Works the other way I'm afraid, half the price, twice the calamity. Although, he did keep Mustafi out the national team so the bar is set low enough. Surely, there is a championship CB better than Boatang in our u-23 squad, Medley perhaps?

This ^^^. Absolutely there will be a couple of decent CBs kicking about in the Championship who could do a job but we are too snobby / continental (take your pick) to bother our arses investing the time and effort to scout them. In fact you could probably put together a whole defence from teams outside the Championship top four which would still be better than what we have. I've only seen Medley a couple of times but he didn't look quite ready to me and I'd hate to see him in the team too early.

Arteta on transfers: “We don’t talk about any transfers but we are working on a few things.”

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Whilst our squad is clearly not good enough, I think we need to be cautious in terms of buying players.
Clearly we could do with quality in defence and we are very light in CM (especially if he does the right thing and moves on Xhaka). However, we absolutely do not want to get caught in the trap of signing players for the level that we are at now, and find that a year down the line we have a squad packed full of new average players, who might be a bit better than what we have now but not good enough for where we should be aiming.
If there are good options out there then great, but bear in mind it’s the January window. We’re no longer any sort of relegation risk, we realistically have nothing to play for in the league and if there aren’t really good options available I would rather wait until the summer.

Arsenal will focus on trying to bring in one or two loan additions to boost Arteta’s squad before loosening the purse strings again in the summer ahead of the 2020-21 season. [@charles_watts]
