We could argue that Ireland, both North and South hasn’t faired to badly.
I think the decision taken independantly by pubs and a lot of retailers in the North to follow the South’ lead, days before it was made compulsory, has paid huge dividends.
A large percentage of the deaths have been in care homes, ie the elderly and infirm. Whilst that is still someone’s personal tragedy, it’s more understandable.
To be fair to Boris and co, countries with large cities and a huge range of nationalities, seem to have been hit worst. What they have managed to do, which Italy and Spain struggled with, is to provide beds to those who needed them.
They have also avoided the distressing scenes of mass graves and coffins piled into storage awaiting cremation.
They have also provided unprecedented financial aid to many people affected (J’ve been on furlough for 7 weeks)
They also, like many other countries, got many things wrong. A reckoning on that, is for the future.
And Nutflush, Starmer, is an opportunist, merely trying to score points during a time of crisis and the Tories will wipe the floor with Labour when the next election comes.
Starmer has actually held back in roasting Boris. The first time it happened was yesterday, Opportunism only comes about when the incumbent government fail at all levels to deal with a crisis that it is clear that other countries have done better than we have.

You talk about population density, well Germany is comparable with 80% of our population density but has less than 25% of the deaths in the UK. It's about clear proactive effective leadership, the Tories/Boris have not displayed any of these characteristics.

You talk about care homes, how is a death in a care home understandable when someone tests positive in a hospital but they are sent back to their care home to infect the other residents? Not forgetting Care Homes were right at the bottom of the list for PPE supplies when the main battle against COVID was in each and every care home in this country.

https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus- ... 9-11987327

There are no excuses. It's a national scandal that has to be exposed.

All the praise heaped on Germany (myself included), has been premature. They've had a second wave hit them and are back into lockdown.

The government has been a bit naff at its instructions and the lockdown has in all honestly, hardly been a lockdown. I don't know what the police have been doing to the enforce the lockdown because I travel regularly into Wales for work, I've not been stopped once to be asked the purpose of my journey. No doubt after posting this I'll be stopped.
Why do people think a labour government led by Jeremy Corbyn would have done any better?
The government has released money into vital services. The failure in procuring effective PPE and testing kits would have occurred whoever won the election in December, as I'd imagine they'd have the same scientific expert analysis.
The message is simple and the same across the world.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-52632369

Germany had 595 new reported infections yesterday, and 77 new deaths. We had 3,446 new cases and 428 deaths. They aren't back into lockdown.

To look at the bigger picture Germany's death rate is 94 per million population, versus our 489. The only reason Germany is brought up is because people come out with the excuse the UK is overcrowded and therefore more people have died. Germany's population density is not far off ours with a higher population overall. There are countless other countries that have done things better than we have.

You mention things wouldn't be any better under Corbyn, yeah you're probably right but that doesn't make things ok does it? In the main, I am making strategic and tactical observations over political based on what has happened so far both here and abroad.

It's gonna be fucking bedlam here on Monday when we go into phase one of lifting the lockdown. People are already out in far higher numbers. A Tesco in Dublin had to close when mobs refused to distance and then got abusive with staff.

I had a row with a black dude on my tram to the train station this evening. I only mention his colour because the ignorant cùnt tried to fuck the race card at me when I told him to move 2 metres away from me. I corrected his assertion that I was having a pop at him because he was black by clarifying I was actually having a pop at him because he was an ignorant cùnt. :censored: He walked away quickly and seemed to want some time to consider this. :D

The times I've had 'cross words' with someone who isn't white and they try and play the race card, even though the thing we're disagreeing on has nothing to do with colour/race/creed and neither have I used any words, terms or language that could be interpreted as Racist..

I have argued for a few weeks now that we need to start easing our restrictions before we totally lose the support of the people, but I too am dreading what is coming at the weekend - imo it would be hugely helpful if we were now to have a week of rain and cold cos it might keep people in line, but it looks like we are gonna have more good weather which will in turn lead to countless BBQ's and parties, and every c.unt under the sun going shopping

I'll be honest here and say that I'm not so scared about a wild increase in numbers and deaths, but I think that the government will be looking for any excuse to lock us down again - we will have the brainless, entitled and freeloaders in our society to thank WHEN that happens :censored: :censored:

So the mickeys are threatening not to send their kids back to school in June - ffs if ever a city needed education

Remember you don't have to go back to work if you don't feel safe......you stay at home and look after yourself.

Just as long as the rest of us mugs who have worked through the lockdown are there for your benefit then that's alright.

We've turned into a nation of absolute fannies.

Maybe if your wife was a teacher, you might feel different? Risk of serious illness/death and you describe them as ‘fannies’! Some people just don’t get it!

My wife is a nursery nurse mate so she is in a classroom with a teacher every day just as I am at my work every day so trust me I get it thank you! I am fucking sick to my back teeth of hearing the fannies saying "I'll go back to work if it's safe". There is no guarantee of a vaccine and if one is discovered then it could be years away. Are you intending to hide away until then? The government haven't a clue how many cases are out there as everything they come away with is based on the testing of about 1M people which will have included every hypochondriac in the UK.

Life was never safe, there is always risk in going out your front door every day but you have to manage it and be sensible. There is a virus out there which requires good levels of personal hygiene and social distancing. Take a look at the death figures for the under 60s and the odds of dying from this thing are about the same as drowning apparently. Pensioners are 34 times more likely to die than a person of working age so they are where the real focus for care should be. You're absolutely right that some people just don't get it - it would appear that you are one of them.

Well all I can say is I hope your wife doesn’t catch it or is a carrier who passes it on to one of the kids who then brings it home to mum, dad or the grandparents. Maybe if the leadership was not so full of bullshit and lies, there might be some clearer guidance from the scientists and medical specialists instead of the demonising of teachers and people like you calling them ‘fannies’! Do you read the Daily Mail or The Sun?

The Telegraph for me thanks, I can cope with big words!

Well we kind of all hope that that's the case don't we but there has to be a limit to how long we go into hiding.

I'm not demonising teachers, I'm having a pop at every hypocrite sat on their arse at home who expects the world to be made safe for them before they lift a finger. These people expect everybody else to go to work and to deal with the virus.....just not them!!

The Torygraph! Forgot to add that on the last post. Might have guessed. Just another right wing, xenophobic rag passing itself off as a newspaper. ‘Before they lift a finger’ ? Do you realise the amount of work they are doing from home or going in to teach the children of key workers anyway where they are able to control distancing. All the teachers want is a safe workplace and practises where things can be controlled. Do they belong in the ‘hypocrites sitting on their arses‘ category? Are you happy in yourself?

Sorry but i have to agree with Jock on this, teachers have been whining for years over Government interference, now they along with their respective Unions are whining about not being given enough guidance. FFS they are the professionals in their respective professions so they should be coming up with solutions like every other business out there trying to get back in to working order.....

Sorry but it doesnt wash for me when Teachers earning considerably more than your average supermarket worker, delivery driver or care worker are able to avoid their responsibilities to the young of the country en masse, but hey they're ok on 100% wages able to work from home unlike a large part of the population who are dependant on their kids going to school so the parents can in turn earn a living, many of whom have been having to put themselves at risk out at work during the peak of the crisis

Ah so no doubt you read a wet liberal rag for hand wringing apologists. The Guardian or the Mirror no doubt. Before you get on your moral high horse did you actually read my post. Try again. My wife is doing all that on a daily basis including going into classes for key worker kids and posting all sorts of stuff online for the kids at home not just spouting about it as some are.

The teachers at her place want to get back to work properly but the govt has scared everyone silly and the unions are playing politics. Please explain to me what safe really is? What do you think my wife does when a little kid falls over and hurts themselves?? Yes that's right she comforts them and looks after them. Sorry, did you think she maintained a 2m distance and threw a plaster at them. You sit on your arse until you feel safe again though.

Who the hell says "are you happy in yourself." How old are you? That's the sort of crap my daughter would say. But seeing as you ask, I am perfectly happy thanks as I'm quite capable of thinking for myself.
