I'm not demonising teachers, I'm having a pop at every hypocrite sat on their arse at home who expects the world to be made safe for them before they lift a finger. These people expect everybody else to go to work and to deal with the virus.....just not them!!

The Torygraph! Forgot to add that on the last post. Might have guessed. Just another right wing, xenophobic rag passing itself off as a newspaper. ‘Before they lift a finger’ ? Do you realise the amount of work they are doing from home or going in to teach the children of key workers anyway where they are able to control distancing. All the teachers want is a safe workplace and practises where things can be controlled. Do they belong in the ‘hypocrites sitting on their arses‘ category? Are you happy in yourself?

My wife is doing all that on a daily basis including going into classes for key worker kids and posting all sorts of stuff online for the kids at home not just spouting about it as some are.

The teachers at her place want to get back to work properly but the govt has scared everyone silly and the unions are playing politics. Please explain to me what safe really is? What do you think my wife does when a little kid falls over and hurts themselves?? Yes that's right she comforts them and looks after them. I don’t read a Newspaper as I don’t need them to tell me how to think! Particularly one owned by Right Wing ‘Apologists’. Guess you’ll be wanting all those immigrant NHS workers to go home as your newspaper of choice seems to want? And how has the Government scared everyone silly? I think the figures speak for themselves. 35000 and rising! Isn’t that enough to warrant just requiring the correct levels of safety in schools? 35000 and rising - slowly. Here is a fact for you, about 44000 people die every month in the UK as a matter of course. The virus needs to be treated with a degree of respect and there are families who really should be looking after themselves and I would make every concession for them. The problem is that when everyone is howling about being safe the ones who genuinely are at risk are lost in the noise which is wrong.

But the rest of us need to grow up, wash our hands, be sensible and get on with it.

Sorry but i have to agree with Jock on this, teachers have been whining for years over Government interference, now they along with their respective Unions are whining about not being given enough guidance. FFS they are the professionals in their respective professions so they should be coming up with solutions like every other business out there trying to get back in to working order.....

Sorry but it doesnt wash for me when Teachers earning considerably more than your average supermarket worker, delivery driver or care worker are able to avoid their responsibilities to the young of the country en masse, but hey they're ok on 100% wages able to work from home unlike a large part of the population who are dependant on their kids going to school so the parents can in turn earn a living, many of whom have been having to put themselves at risk out at work during the peak of the crisis

Different country I know, but I agree with both of ye on how pampered teachers are. Over here our leaving cert students (equivalent of your A levels), are having their grades decided by an accumulation of teacher gradings, mock test results, and average result tests over the last few years - these are the most important results of the secondary school lives and will have a huge impact on what college courses and jobs they can get, and the want it decided by some mish mash b.ullshit like this ?? I hear people saying that exams cant go ahead cos of social distancing, but all over the country there are empty primary and secondary schools and classrooms that they could utilise by spreading out the kids sitting the exams, but that would need more people to supervise exams and there is no chance that teachers will agree to do that despite being fully paid whilst sitting at home on their arses for the past 3 months

No doubt the world as it currently is is a mess, but it is a mess where people should all pull together to work things out instead of one group sitting back and waiting for everyone else to do what is necessary - if this was a virus that we knew would last for x number of weeks or months then I would understand (maybe) people's reluctance to put themselves out there, but this virus could be around for years so at what stage are they gonna get back to living life ? It is an excuse for some to stay at home on full pay, and especially those working in the public sector

Not sure what your skin colour or ethnicity has to do with it? Strange point that! Migrants come from all over the world don’t you know? But by buying the Torygraph and taking in all it’s poisonous divisiveness you are supporting it’s agenda and fuelling the hatred. I just think things should take as long as it needs if that means sparing many more lives. This crisis is unprecedented in our lifetime and it needs to be dealt with humanely and sparingly to reduce the death toll. Or are you happy for there to be ‘collateral damage’ with further losses due to the rush back to work and school?

Not really parents or teachers specifically as I know plenty of both who want the schools to get started again. I'm just fed up with hearing people bleating on about the fact that they will go back to work 'when and if it's safe'. I agree with Muzz's point about it being all govt interference one minute but then the unions wanting chapter and verse spelt out before they agree to the teachers going back. That is just a case of political point scoring by the unions rather than a refusal to go back from the teachers in fairness.

So the safety aspect / excuse / delusion! When exactly is that going to be? Define safe! I'm not safe at work....my wife isn't safe at her work and for all I know old goonertux may not be entirely safe at his work which I would like him to be. But we are all out there and doing our work regardless because we are capable of carrying out our own little self risk assessments and making a decision. Beyond our respective little contributions there are people in the NHS doing it for real because it's what they do and they make the best of it and crack on. As you say Augie we don't know how long the virus is going to take so it's decision time. How about we all sit back on our arses - doctors and nurses included......I don't think they are very safe. If they are prepared to do their bit then the least I can do is chip in with what I do too. Only seems fair.

I think it started for me when Aguero started whining......Christ if ever a group of pampered mollycoddled individuals existed it's footballers. The Germans bit the bullet today and their footballers gave it a go. The UK entered lockdown 2/3 weeks after Europe did but then we are looking to begin to open up in June so the timing is pretty much the same.

But as a bit of a liberal or leftie or whatever you are, I think it's very important that you understand what the term race covers in this day and age especially if you are accusing or even alluding that somone is racist.

The Equality Act makes it unlawful to do a heap of bad discriminatory stuff because of race which includes the different elements of colour, nationality, and ethnic or national origin.

So I'm afraid the immigration problem.....if you deem it a problem......is always about race.

Anyone know how to block these fucking pop up videos on iPhone? I have pop ups blocked in the settings menu of safari but this fucking site is absolutely riddled with videos and text ads none the less.

Can’t navigate around the site at all without a video of two guys chatting (no sound but can only presume they’re discussing destroying each other’s arseholes).

Between that and the never ending quote towers where you can’t see what’s been said it’s a nightmare in every thread.
