I remember it happening to Paul Ince about 25 years ago. Went in for a tackle, got a boot or knee or whatever to the rib and stayed down. It turned out he had a broken rib puncturing his lung and couldn't breathe properly. I was under the impression that the refs were told to stop the game for head injuries and chest injuries because you never know if what it could be and God forbid it could be a heart attack. As always though, the rules don't apply when we're on the receiving end.
