With you on that 1 the only problem you have there whose going to buy him in jan when hes off to the african nations.Thought he started last season well but he went completely off the boil from november onwards.Watching him yesterday when he came on in 2nd half it was embarrasingThis Is The Daybreak wrote:He was a very useful player at the start of last season but was truly woeful after christmas. Absolutely agree, and not only that but isn't there an order in which we should clear the dead wood too. I would hardly put Chamakh in the problem child category.Irish Gooner wrote:For me its about selling and replacing. If we sell Bendtner, Chamakh and to a lesser extent JET reserve striker then surely we must bring in 2 strikers with quality to replace them.
Which Wenger wouldnt do. If it came to it between Vela and Chamakh I would pick Chamakh everytime.
So for me, get rid of Vela, Bendtner seems on his way, leave Chamakh one more year.
Ahead of him we have 3 reserve goalkeepers all of which have had chances, and all of which have been shite. We have 3 right backs if we believe that's where Jenkinson has been bought as cover (although the GIC's wonderous "Carl can play there too" comment about CBs makes me wonder), and we seem hell bent on assembling a collection of flaky wide midfielders.
Chamakh was doing well and his confidence was high. RvP gets fit, the GIC refuses to abandon his dire 4-5-1 (for that is what it is) and therefore there is no role for Chamakh other than rotating with Bendtner in the "lets pretend we're left wingers for the last 20 minutes" role.
When we were struggling to break teams down ("all credit to Blackburn/Sunderland/Villa they defended very well"), it might have been fucking handy to have one of our only decent headers of the ball in the penalty area instead of just RvP with his back to goal.
But that would mean looking to do things differently and that just wouldn't do. We waited a while for a guy with an aerial presence up front - lets not abandon him just yet (in the way the GIC has)

100% SELL.
He is a terrible 'striker'. Maybe a good footballer.
I cannot believe how little stick he got when he runs towards goal after receiving a pass then turns backwards to pass again.
Look at our style of play. You need a true striker in the team, whilst everyone else is looking for a pass, this guy receives one and looks a for shot.
RVP is the only decent striker we have. Chamakh, Bendtner are awful awful strikers.
Other teams are stacked with strikers. Rooney + Hernandez. Tevez + Balotelli/Dezeko/Aguero/Adebayor.
Eto'o + Milito, Ronaldo + Higuain.
And we've chamakh and nik. oh looooooooooooool. Arsenal's style demands we have quality strikers but we 1, who could fall to peices at any time.

Chamakh helped Bordeaux (of all teams) win the French Ligue 1 and qualify for Champions League. That season he led all of EUROPE in header goals. Maybe we shouldn't be looking at him but instead his supply lines, as other posters have mentioned.
He has a lot of talent to offer Arsenal. Just needs more consistent match time in his favored position IMO.

Spot on... when he first came to Arsenal he was banging them in regularly, it's only when RVP came back and he got dropped that his confidence was shot to pieces.Barriecuda wrote:Chamakh helped Bordeaux (of all teams) win the French Ligue 1 and qualify for Champions League. You don't become a shit player overnight and Chamakh showed he was quality in the first half of last season before he got dropped.
How would you feel if you were tearing it up in the Prem and then got dropped, and then when you were brought on as a sub, you weren't played in your favoured position.
If Wenger tried a 4-4-2 with Chamakh and RVP up top I think we'd be onto a winner there.

I'm all for RVP going back to an SS role. We wouldn't lose his dynamism but we'd gain another attacking threat - a proper CF - kind of like we had when it was Ade/RVP at the front of the 4-4-2. Hell, maybe we'd score on a corner again!worthing_gooner wrote:Spot on... when he first came to Arsenal he was banging them in regularly, it's only when RVP came back and he got dropped that his confidence was shot to pieces.Barriecuda wrote:Chamakh helped Bordeaux (of all teams) win the French Ligue 1 and qualify for Champions League.
