Toffees losing their badge to a cartoon too...

At least they acknowledged that they could have had more supporter consultation & perhaps not everyone likes the new crest. At Arsenal it was pretty much "You don't like it? Too fucking bad. Give us your money."

Maybe a no no to a new badge but, a new manager?

Roberto resigns: Martinez leaves relegated Wigan as Everton prepare to pounce - but chairman Whelan wants £2m compensation.

Everton's new badge is horrible. Just like the old one.

The shit building in the middle is Rupert's Tower. Which started off as an overnight prison for drunks and criminals  . I kid you not.

:rubchin: On second thoughts, it is highly appropriate for any club in the Liverpool area. The inmates were probably all innocent. They didn't do anything wrong. The police are to blame.

I don't know, I personally thought Everton's statement was rather sarcastic: ""We regret we didn't ask every Evertonian about something that matters so much to every one of you."

And despite acknowledging that 22,000 of their fans don't like it, they're still pressing on. 'You hate it, but we don't care', seems to be the philosophy.

They're gonna stick with it for the new season and then review it in 2014. Can't see it changing much. Considering you can't buy everton kits anywhere but the club shop not likely to hit their commercial impact, unless nike have forced their hand on that one.

This is all about commercialisation and being able to stamp a simpler to replicate, but copy-writable, logo on a variety of merchandise. I bet the issue for Everton is that the scroll and the date are fiddly to replicate on scarfs, hats, t-shirts, mugs, giro holders and the like. A badge with a clear outer border makes it easier to separate manufacture of the badge from manufacture of the piece of kit it's going to be fixed to.

Our new badge was partly about that, because the full old crest is a lot more complex than the new cartoon. But it was also about copyright as I am sure a simple image of a cannon is/was much harder to legally protect.

Overnight prison for drunks and criminals? Sounds like many a nightclub.  :cussing:

"Nil Satis Nisi Optimum" - "Not guilty your honour"

Consulting with supporters? Reinstating the dismissed Latin motto? Keeping traditional local symbolism? They won't "maximise their brand potential in Asia" and get to the top of the Deloitte Money League with antics like that!

Everton FC have unveiled three crest designs for supporters to vote on after their new crest was criticised.

It was announced last week that the club's motto would return to the design after its removal for this season led to outrage from thousands of fans.

The motto Nil Satis Nisi Optimum, which means "nothing but the best is good enough", dates back 75 years but disappeared as part of a redesign.

The redesign provoked a furious reaction from fans
Fans can vote on which design they prefer on the club's website.

The club apologised in May after 22,000 fans signed an online petition condemning the "awful" 2013-2014 badge.

The winning design will be used for the 2014-2015 season.

An Everton spokesman said following consultation with supporters, it was clear the majority of the fans wanted "the tower and Nil Satis Nisi Optimum" on the crest.

What a shame we didn't mobilise ourselves and tell the Club where to stick our stupid cartoon badge. Fans should never under-estimate the power we hold, if only we'd get together rather than shrugging our shoulders and moaning on the internet . . . . . like I'm doing now

When it was unveiled at a match and walked round the pitch by 4 sheepish junior gunners the clock end where I was responded with a hearty "what the fucking hell is that" - too little too late but don't forget the club couldn't copyright the old badge as it had been amended over the years, so legally Arsenal couldn't lay undisputed claim to it.

They could have at least kept VCC, text which was discredited by the design agency as "irrelevant" Not to mention the crest of the borough where the team is fucking based. Instead, as has become commonplace, we opted for the most basic, lowest common denominator, Sesame Street style design that was simple to reproduce, appealed to everyone and isolated no-one.

Style and tradition out the window in order to make a few extra quid.

Bitterness bitterness ,
the only the thing the Toffs possess
I thank the lord that I am blessed
With none of that blue-shite bitterness

Stick your fucking Z cars up your arse

loathe Everton !

Christ. Everytime I see our beautiful old crest with it's latin motto, gothic font and proper cannon pointing in the right direction and then look at the cartoon crest we now have I feel sad at how our club has changed into a corporate entity. :(

Dan I agree mate I was one of the vocal dissenters at that match, I was trying to point out that the club's reason for the new badge was money orientated (what else) if it needed doing at all - we could have kept it far closer to our dearly beloved badge with its heraldic writing and profound motto.
