Re: RIP Thread
Our club president once tried to get some Oireland players to present trophies at our club trophy night and was having no luck through the FAI. Frank Stapleton's dad put him in touch with Bill and Bill duly organised Stapleton, O'Leary, Brady and Tony Grealish ( ) to attend. Never met the man but he has a stellar rep in Oirish football circles. Sorry to hear of his passing. RIP.Bradywasking wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 10:32 amThe death took place in recent days in Dublin of Bill Darby..Bill was the Arsenal scout in Ireland for many years and is credited with unearthing the talent that became legends at Highbury..Acting FAI CEO Niall Quinn paid a lovely tribute to him .
Met Bill back in the 80s or early 90s when he was a guest speaker at a Dublin Arsenal Supporters Club meeting . Lovely gesture by his family to have the Arsenal Crest on his death notice.. RIP

Tim Brooke-Taylor sadly lost to the virus today. Growing up, the Goodies was an absolute fave even though it looks a bit dated now. First of many childhood heroes I guess, with the age risk at the moment. RIP.

I enjoyed the Goodies too, but yes, would be very dated nowadays. RIP TBT
I’m doing a weekly quiz with friends and one of my questions last week was to name the 3 members of the Goodies.....hoping I haven’t got the curse of Aaron Ramsey.
Sir Stirling Moss passed away aged 90, not Coronavirus related, wow what a career he had.

Dave Bacuzzi - former Arsenal player ( must admit I’ve never heard of him )
May be better known to our Irish contingent as he had links to Home Farm &. Cork Hibernians.

Bacuzzi played with McGill , McCullogh, Affectionally known as our Irish International fullbacks although he is listed as being born in Islington from an Italian background
Add to that McClelland goalkeeper and Terry Neil and as the lot from Seven Sisters strode to their double at school all we had was our Irish connection as we staggered to midtable .
I admit that I have just looked up the Irish bit , apparently he started and finished his career playing and managing Cork Hibernians .
I know that I saw him play but he doesn't stick out particularly in my memory like Dennis Evans and Billy McCullogh who did and were both entertaining in their own way.
Evans as a right back was a great penalty taker used to power them into the top corners and McCullogh had the turning cirle of a double decker bus and couldn't do a decent foul if he tried . I can't remember the winger but Billy was being roasted and he was getting stick from the North Bank , as the winger went past him for the upteenth time , McCullogh grabbed his shirt which tore and about half of his sleeve came off , as the crowd roared with laughter he sheepishly held the sleeve and waved it to the crowd with a big grin on his face.
Which was only surpassed by the time he tried a slide tackle and went off the pitch and got his foot trapped in the little picket fence that used to go round the edge of the pitch at Highbury.
There was so much fun at Highbury in those days.

Oh man that is a great story.
The game had so many characters back in the day. Nowadays the characters have mostly been replaced by cùnts unfortunately.

Bacuzzi ended up in the travel business in Ireland I think..I remember him managing the now defunct Cork Hibernian and Home Farm..Guy I work with played under him for Home Farm , said Bacuzzi had the strongest legs he ever saw In football.StuartL wrote: ↑Thu Apr 23, 2020 7:21 pmDave Bacuzzi - former Arsenal player ( must admit I’ve never heard of him )

Read an article about him the other say after his death was announced. Apparently when Cork Hibernian wanted him they contacted his agent (I presume) who in turn telegraphed Bacuzzi. However a typo on the telegraph said Cork Island instead of Cork Ireland and Bacuzzi thought he was off to somewhere exotic.
