I've seen Metallica so many times over the years and they never fail to impress live.OneBardGooner wrote: ↑Sun Jul 23, 2023 7:48 pmI Soooo Wish I could have been at this Gig!

Have you watched the DVD of S&M live with the San Fran Symphony Orchestra from 1999? Absolutely stunning film. I'm talking about the first one with Michael Kamen conducting.
The second one in 2019 with Edwin Outwater and Michael Tilson conducting was OK, but not as stunning as the original. The sound wasn't as good.
Here's the first one:

Re: THE FRANKSAV MUSIC THREAD
Cheers mate, I didn't know about that one ... Not boasting or anything (well maybe just a little )but I was living in Edinburgh for about 6 months at the time...
And Metallica were playing The Edinburgh Play House for 2 (or 3 Nights)?? Tickets were like Gold Dust...So I went down in the afternoon before the first show, blagged my way in to watch the stage being set-up and then a quick rehearsal/sound check (FUCK IT WAS LOUD!!!) and got an A4 colour Poster of "The Justice For All" from the Merch Desk; which they were promoting / touring with, signed by all the band (*) - Now framed and hanging on the wall! (I'll try and figure out how to take a picture and put it on here... I can C & P pics of the internet, but off my phone or a camera might Bamboozle me)
Lars Ulrich was so approachable and even got the other members of the band to sign as well - James Hetfield was like a wrecking ball even in the rehearsals...but totally friendly etc with the fans.
Only ever seen them once but they were Fuckin' Awesome... I remember coming out of the gig Totally Exhausted, I felt like I had run a marathon in 2hrs 15 minutes....but I was high for a week on the adrenalin of the show. (and fuckin' Deaf - You know that High Pitched Whistle was with me for about a week!)
sigh! Those Were The Days!

I know it so well. I've left so many metal gigs over the years thinking "that's it, that was the one, I'm deaf now".
One of the loudest I ever heard was AC/DC in the early - mid Eighties. Jesus Christ they were so loud. We started off front row to the right where we discovered very quickly the bass bins were. You could actually FEEL the bass booming and thumping in your chest. We pushed our way back a couple rows and got more central and it was less painful in there.
Afterwards we were walking back to the bus stop yelling at each other and none of us could hear a fucking thing. People walking past were just staring at this handful of long haired metal heads each yelling to the guy right next to them.
Next day, I came down for breakfast and my dad asked how the gig went. "IT WAS BRILLIANT!" I apparently screamed at him at the top of my lungs. Took best part of a week for my hearing to recover.
