‘Wonder Of You’ replacement suggestions

This is just a thread starter as the author of an exclusive on the main part of the site (which hasn’t actually appeared yet, but will do before long) has asked for some suggestions re: the Arsenal anthem/run out music. So as there needs to be somewhere for people to make them, here’s the very place.

The Wonder of You is just bilge and trying to get a group sing song going 'A la Scouse' just isn't right.

London Calling isn't a bad shout, but there are some high profile Gooners out there from the Music Business...

90% of Spandau Ballet (okay, maybe not that High profile, but hey..), Buster Blood Vessell, Roger Daltrey, John Lydon, half the Kinks, Angus from ACDC...

Surely amongst all of that lot there must be a suitable tune...
I'm thinking maybe 'Big Gun' by ACDC there...

Hate the song, can't stand it. As a fan, you want something uplifting, something that makes you tingle, or the hair stand on the back of your neck. Something that starts, then explodes in to life. Even get the players waiting in the tunnel into rythem when they hear it, get the head banging, their blood rushing, like the old Wimbledon days with the gettho blasters. My shout would be 'U2's' 'The Real Thing'. I'd prefer the disco version as the beat cranks up and a set of bongo's crashes in. Even if it is too long the normal version would do for me.
Don't dismiss the choice unless you've heard it. But if you have, don't you think it would be a worthy contender. And as for the title, well it says it all.

I ran an online petition for this a while ago for redaction. got a few hundred responses some with suggestions. Listed below with the number of times they were suggested. Excluding any commets that just said stuff along the lines of , "anything but the crap we have now"

The whole thing with having an anthem is to have a song that up lifts the supporters before the game and the wonder of you doesn't really do it. I think it time they done away with it to be honest.

I think if we are going choose a song to have before the game then we need to choose a song like YNWA or Fields of Athenry. I think we would be better coosing a song like The Impossible Dream however i wouldn't expect this to catch on.

The biggest problem with an Arsenal anthem is that the supporters won't all agree with the chosen anthem and won't sing there hearts out to it before the game because we won't have any history or affinity with the chosen song.

With all that said i think it will be best if we didn't have a club anthem all together and suggset other ways of creating a good atmosphere before the game.

I think the problem is that we are all not going to agree on one anthem. Liverpool had had YNWA for as long as I can remember, we can just pick an Arsenal anthem now and expect that to become ours which everyone will love and embrace (as mentioned earlier).

I think if I recall the offical site trialled this towards the back end of the days at Highbury with different songs, the A-Team was a personal favourite ! I also remember in the early/mid nineties we used to come out to Simply The Best.

That said, for a long time we've played right here right now which I think is also got people going.

Overall (Arsene-esque..) I feel the only one that resembles anything like an anthem of ours is Good Old Arsenal. Maybe a reworked version with a modern touch.

One thing they have got to sort whatever they pick is playing a tune then curtting it halfway through for that stupid premier league tune..
