Jim Furnell better than Lev Yashin?

Jim Furnell better than Lev Yashin?

Post by JMascis666 »

Can somebody with a very long memory help me out with the lyrics of a song that used get aired at Highbury during the mid 60s about our then goal keeper Jim Furnell being better than the Soviet goalkeeper of the era (Lev Yashin)?

I'm sure Yashin was used to rhyme with a line about Spurs getting a thrashing.

Was it to the tune of the Mighty Quinn...? Went something like;

"Come on without, come on within - you ain't seen nothing like Fumbling Jim!" :rubchin:

Aye aye aye aye
Furnell is better than Yashin
Sammels is better than Eusebio
and Tottnum are in for a thrashing

To the tune of some Italian popular song.

Fingers Furnell as he was known was the first keeper I saw at Arsenal, one of the first games I remember from him was how peter simpson turned the ball back to him V mufc in Feb 1968 ,I think under pressure from a certain George Best and despite the ball travelling at 2 miles an hour and bouncing Jim managed to fling the ball in the net !
The second goal was a solo effort from Best who danced round the defence b4 scoring !

Well it fits the tune! (Eusebio is four syllables).

Fingers was the Almunia and Flappy of his day.I saw his final game for us in the FA Cup v Birmingham in 1968 we were 1-0 up when he was beaten by a 40 yard header. Normally when a keeper leaves Arsenal they move to a club in the same division Fingers moved to Rotherham.He was that bad
