I'm not a fan of the Ropey Cup but even less so of the Middle East / Asian venue of Baku which is no more European than fucking Tehran......yes that's next door!

I have been lucky to attend every final since 1987 and have had some cracking times in europe but this Baku bullshit leaves me cold. If we do finish the job against the Spanish on Thursday I am really struggling to be bothered to play along with the cu.nts at UEFA.

Who else bid for the final? Well the Turks did which is another western asian country so that's a load of bollox and Seville also bid - that's Seville as in Spain, you know like properly in Europe so of course they got fucked off by UEFA as they probably didn't cough up the required wedge to secure the vote.

Among the nations who didn't submit bids but fancied the final were Stuttgart, Glasgow and Tibilisi (Georgia - fuck off will you). So UEFA could have encouraged two of those to bid as a final in Seville or Stuttgart would have been great. Even Glasgow would have been decent and falkirk and I could have made some money acting as translators for those who can't speak the the local vernacular of weegie.

Oh well at least next years final is in the footballing hotbed of Gdansk (which is in the EU) where the record attendance of 40,794 was apparently set in 2014 for the visit of......Justin Timberlake, I kid ye not and even he didn't sell out the place. Ffs we really do need to get back in the CL as soon as we can. 2021 ropey will be in Seville or Georgia so you know where that will end up.

I've sat all around the ground over the last 10 years, and whilst it did appear more noisy than usual in the clock end last night from the north bank you probably only caught one or two songs that where audible. The problem with the clock end as others have said, is unlike back in the day when the hardcore support used to stand next to the away fans, it is now a mixture of very young fans and families.

In the north bank, which in my opinion is easily the noisiest part of the ground the songs bounce off from all quarters, lower and upper tier. That doesn't really happen in the clock end, especially the upper tier.

On the subject of the final, who honestly decided that Baku would be an appropriate destination. With the potential for possibly 2 London clubs in the final, there is not one direct flight as we speak. It's 10 hours with one transfer and prices start at around £500. We would comfortably take more fans than chelski, but I should imagine there wouldnt be more than 10,000 that bother.

Edit, if this is true its shocking. 7,000 tickets for each finalist and 37,500 through a ballot to any Tom, Dick or Harry

https://www.theticketingbusiness.com/20 ... locations/
Can't agree more on both topics.

If you are putting CL Final in Madrid, you have about another 30 countries within Europe that you can host the EL Final. Baku is wealthy and all good but anyone NOT flying from Istanbul, Moscow or somewhere like Doha is making life a living hell getting there. How can you put a EUROPA LEAGUE Final in a country with less than 2 flights or some days no flights direct from within the EU countries. It's a complete joke.

I booked my tickets last night when we went 3-1 up with Turkish and have to be in IST for something like 4hrs and total time I am spending 'traveling' is roughly 11hrs. Qatar suggested I go Doha (8hrs) + 5hrs layover and 4hrs to Baku...

Put it somewhere sensible like Porto, Berlin, Warsaw, Brussels or Amsterdam and the list goes on. Doesn't have to be category A stadium either.

Now we have a potential problem of having 20k English supporters or so going to Baku in 3 weeks time.
Not sure if you are aware of this, but Sport Options whose owner is a Gooner are planning on offering direct flights to Baku, with accommodation in certain packages. This is if either London club get there. Otherwise as you say the most direct route is via Istanbul. BA, fly there several times a day and the connection could be quite long if you take a cheaper flight.

No doubt the flights will be £1k if we make it. More if Chelski do.
I wasn’t aware of this at all, thanks for pointing that out. Just emailed him a few questions across.

Hope it’s cheaper than my package. This Baku shit got everything expensive. UEFA need serious sorting out.

Fucking Baku is no more in Europe than Bejing or Atlanta, UEFA has become geographically embarrassed in the last 20 years, it was always a bit odd Israel being in Europe but because of political tensions you could understand it, but when the Berlin Wall came down and then the Iron Curtain was opened UEFA and their Sky paymasters went on a full on British style Empire build

As for racism, as unacceptable as it is we're all a bunch of hypocrits when you read the way we talk about other fans from around the country and the UK/Europe if we're honest. Racism is just an extension of tribalism, Geordies, Scousers, Mancs, Cockneys, Carrot Crunchers, Taffs, Jocks, Paddies... we all abuse each other but see it as acceptable but when it is someone with a different skin tone it is a different matter... its double standards but minorities play on it and lefties revel in it for their SJW points but never raise their heads when it is not a 'racial minority' matter.

They all make me sick, racists, proto-racists and those who 'benefit' from actively looking for racism where it isn't but that is the society we live in.

I'm ex-Army, in there you slag off everyone no matter where they're from, what religion they are, what skin colour they have or what gender or sexual preference BUT at the end of the day it comes down to one thing and one thing only, you're all 'Green' and when it matters you'll all lay it down for each other no matter what, but if the SJWs ever sat in an Army mess or cookhouse or Naafi bar they'd have absolute apoplexy with absolutely no understanding of the bonds there, its become almost a badge of honour for some to be offended for others :suicide:

Interesting fact, two of the most racist people i ever met weren't white, once was Indian and the other Zimbabwean, and neither were racist towards whites :rubchin:

As much as I don't want to go off topic, the video of those Valencia fans was pure racism it was nothing more nothing less. To say that left-wingers jump on this sort of thing is wrong. Most decent people from all walks of life and political persuasion deplore that sort of behaviour, remember as a member of the armed forces many generations before you fought for the liberty of this country against the Nazis. Why should we use symbolic gestures as a way of showing our prejudices, when we stood up against them in the second world war.

I go back to my point about the black Chelsea fan, as an Individual, he must have been excited to support his team away in Europe. But then to sit in an away end with perhaps no more than 1000 Chelsea fans, and be singled out for his colour is totally different to making sweeping comments about Brummies, Scousers or any Northerners. It's all about context. Chelsea have history for this sort of shit going back many years.

And yes you don't have to be white to be racist, many Indians from the Sub Continent have prejudices against Muslims.

We are all a party to some sort of prejudice or racism ,be it colour, place of origin, religion, it's human nature .
Currently racism is considered to be on the rise because of Brexit ,but that's just rubbish .
It's on the rise because of austerity measures squeezing the poor .
Its on the rise because of the saturation levels of immigration the lack of infrastructure to cope with them and the violence that many bring with them.
Its on the rise because the poor are being ethnically cleansed from inner city areas by new waves of immigrants who are jumping the ques for housing and other benefits not to mention the NHS which leaves the host nation people speechless .
It's on the rise because many new immigrants do not wish to integrate with their new neighbours they wish to dominate them .
Im shocked Im writing this ,30/20 fuck even 15 years ago I was an all embracing let em come type of left wing do gooding socialist but I've changed not because of my views but because what I have seen has shocked me. I have witnessed often first hand as the host nation has been terrorised by the new arrivals .
People are shocked because of the huge rise in knife crime well it hasnt surprised me . In 1993 the US invaded Somalia and shortly after boroughs like the one I lived in Waltham Forest started taking in refugees from that country and within weeks they were stabbing their classmates in schools with gusto. Remember only the strong get to this country not the weak.
Since then we have had the Albanian Mafia slip through as Kosovan refugees, and many more from Africa ,Iraq,Afghnistan and other places the U has helped destroy !
Lots has been made of Islamophobia but I doubt of many of you know what happens when they "Land" on an estate in London you would be shocked !
It can be no surprise that people are becoming racists when governments make peoples lives measurably worse, the immigrants are the visible and tangible results of governement policies and pepople react .

It's been rammed down our throats so much that it is now an accepted "fact." Muslims follow Islam therefore are Islamists...it is a religion NOT a race so prejudicial behaviour cannot be construed as racist.

I had a girlfriend who said to me that the Muslim girl she worked with was bone idle but she didn't want to complain in case she was seen as racist :? :?

Btw, just read your post Herd....well put.

And also Danny Rose is the most unlikeable person I have ever seen on a football field....and there are so many to choose from.

Agree with this. And don't beat yourself up about it conflicting with your old school socialist principles Herd, because it doesn't. The globalisation and mass immigration we've seen over the last 20 years benefits one sector of society....the wealthy and big business. Those that suffer the fall out, many aspects of which you list, are the working classes, the poorest people in the host nation. The quality of their lives is going backwards and anyone with left wing sympathies should be concerned.

Unfortunately, left wing / socialist ideology has been hi-jacked and distorted by the chattering class, pc, metropolitan elite, who are entirely insulated from the down sides of their "global village" notions. They'll be the first to scream, racist, nazi, fascist, when the people of Europe continue to lurch towards populist politicians, especially national populists. The irony is, that this development is the fault of that very same "liberal elite", who have refused to acknowledge or listen to the concerns of their people and have driven them towards those who do appear to be listening. It's all rather sad really and history shows us the results.
