I long for the day that Xhaka the former Arsenal player is irrelevant on this forum. Just as he is currently irrelevant on the pitch ..DB10GOONER wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 5:58 amI'm not.Bradywasking wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2019 6:43 pmI take your points DB , I think they are too young to write off..Journalists tried to destroy Tony Adams from an early age. Admittedly players like Adams were made of sterner stuff and came from a tougher era. Adams rose above that . I am not saying any of the three players will ever rise to his heights but to write them off already is far too soon.DB10GOONER wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 5:24 pmTbh Brady I don't think I was being that harsh. They were absolutely hopeless. Manky-Piles in particular. It's one thing to get ass raped by a top class player, but Delafou is a complete one trick pony and gets promptly put in their pocket by 90% of the PL right backs. But Manky-Piles fell for that one trick over and over again. That's not just a player being played out of position that's a shit player that can't even adapt to an obvious and easily fixed situation.Bradywasking wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 6:38 amThink you are being a touch unfair on the younger players DB..I'm not saying they are World class but they have being introduced to a calamity of a squad which despite the desired getting shut of Wenger haven't improved in terms of application or attitude.
Xhaka said that the team were afraid of Watford..Well welcome to our World Xhaka, we are scared witless every time you are picked and every time the ball goes near you.
Maitland Niles is being played out of position , replacing a player who was always going to be out a for a year ir so. We had an unsuitable replacement in Lichsteiner who was thankfully got rid of..Instead of getting a replacement Emery has continued with Niles who is not a right back in a back four and isn't much better in a back five..Like Chambers at Swansea a few years back Maitland Niles will be destroyed as a footballer by Emery. Speaking of Chambers he reinvented himself, was good against Atletico Madrid season before last , followed by having a good season on loan, albeit at a relegated club..Plays first game of the season , clean sheet achieved and is subsequently dropped for a clown called Luiz.
When I look at the squad I think there is a top four team in there, as suggested earlier that is down to the lack of quality outside Victims and City. The problem is selection and game management. That is down to the manager. Like most Arsenal fans I was fatigued by the Wenger out years and wouldn't want to face into anything similar again..but one lesson learned from Wenger's over extended reign is that no Arsenal manager should ever have such a hold on the club again. I'm not saying Emery out but he needs to produce or be replaced. I am getting less convinced by the week that he has what it takes..
Who knows - the 3 players I lambasted may yet come good but yesterday they were utter gash.... and in Manky-Piles' case he's been gash for months, even when played further forward.
The 3 of them remind me so much of Walcott and thd Ox. All over hyped potential that never gets fullfilled. Hope I'm wrong but I'd bet I'm not....
What I do take issue with is the "name" you have given Ainsley Maitland Niles. It is juvenile schoolyard name calling. You and this forum are better than that. Maitland Niles is an Arsenal player and also a human being, he may be an awful footballer, that is for debate on a forum, but I don't believe such disrespectful nicknames should be used to try enhance your opinion on his merits or otherwise as a footballer. I love banter and slagging off players including our own. I have been on this forum for over ten years and have enjoyed it immensely, but maybe at my age I am too old for it or its content.
It's only banter but point taken. I'll reign in insulting the younger unproven players but Xhakatard stays as Xhakatard as long as I have breath in my lungs.

Not the same thing I know but my nan, who is no longer around sadly, used to struggle in her late 80s and early 90s when the foreigner players started coming over. She watched all the games but just couldnt get to grips with some of the names.NickF wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 9:40 amTo be honest, the forum isn't. Adebayor - ''Abby-day-doo''
Eboue - ''Eboo-bo''
Eduardo - ''Edward''
Sagna - simply referred to as ''the'one with the funny hair''
Rosicky - ''that Polinski ... or whatever he's called''

Get the two fullbacks in along with Holding and get DL out asap.
Oh and on the subject of recent posts about inventive name calling of players perhaps those who are offended by whatever little ditty DB or whoever has come up with in their teabreak might just want to rein in their snowflakey tendencies a little as it's only a bit of fun. Christ there'd be fu.ck all to chew over if there wasn't a bit of humour on here, it's bad enough having to watch the team without the fun police turning up too.

When I first read the line "Anally Manky-Piles was the worst player on a pitch populated by shit players" I thought it was rather harsh on AMN who I totally agree has been dealt a bum hand. As a youngster being blooded under Dick, playing out of position in a shite defence with no midfield cover is not the ideal way to start your career. But there is a degree of humour in that particular piece of poetic prose that is just silly funny and shouldn't be taken too seriously. Rather than tempering the flow of the forum by outlawing the bad mouthing of our own players it might just be easier to ignore the names (as I would do if they offend me) and just make the point that you disagree with the statement made about his performance. It comes down to the old adage of "where do you draw the line?" Does that mean the fairly regular references by some on here to dwarf / animal porn get the chop too...if so we might see a significant drop in posters and the requirement for a new mod too.

I know I'm going to be in a very small minority here but I'm not convinced on the argument about the younger players and the step up to the first team.
Hear me out, starting with AMN, he has been in and around the first team for 3 full seasons now and prior to that he was regularly involved with the under 21/23s and spent a season on loan at Ipswich where he played regularly for them as well as that he has played at U17/21 level for England, he made his professional debut for us at 17 in 2014!! He might not be a seasoned veteran but he is not new to the team. I'll grant the fact that he is being played out of his natural position but he has been doing it for long enough and often enough now to at least understand the role.
Joe Willock may have only played 8 or 9 times but he has been been around the first since 2017, again it's not like he is straight out the academy but he gets a bit more slack than AMN but it is worrying that he seems so lightweight
Reiss Nelson has less first team experience however he spent last season on loan at Hoffenheim where he played 23 times so again it's not like he is straight out the academy, again worrying that up against a physical team he struggled.
You have to bear in mind they are all the product of the academy system which is supposedly designed to ready players from the day they arrive to play for the first team, again maybe it is yet another AW legacy that needs to be put right that more than we think is wrong with the Academy. I'm not saying any of these players should be fully formed professionals but they should be able to put up more of a fight against a team like Watford, it wasn't Man City ffs

The forum would be pointless if we were barred for badmouthing our own players. Football would be pointless if we couldn't criticise our own players . I just felt the name planted on one player was childish and childishly used to prove he was a poor player. It is not about me being offended..If it was I wouldn't have stayed ten minutes let alone ten years on the forum.

So we have addressed the defensive situation then??NickF wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 10:47 pmCould have sworn we bought Tierney and Saliba. Both our starting left and right side are out long term injured as well as having to replace Kos. If everyone was fit how many of our current lot would actually start. Not making excuses as the backups clearly aren't good enough but the defense has been poor for years and is going to take several windows (and possibly a change of management) to fix IMO.
Yeah we bought a couple of players...but nothing done defensively...He will never win anything with a shit defnce and weak protection in front
the team CANNOT DEFEND a bunch of scouse kids put 5 past them, we could have Messi upfront we and would still be shipping goals
Fucking basics any winning team is built on sound foundations
