He was panic bought when backs were to the wall and he was an average player instead of the top player that we needed.He is getting job now after all top managers have been missed or wouldnt touch Arsenal with a barge pole.It continues process of trying to correct past mistakes but this will be another mistake.It's the shite that has gone on for years, miss out in the past on best of an average lot such as Rodgers, and then throw the dice in panic.Gone on with signings for years, could buy Van Dijk easily from Celtic when he went to Southhampton but fuck about and then sign a load of crap.Johnny Evans isnt good enough for us a year or two ago, and maybe hes not, but then sign far worse in Mustafi,Luiz etc. Spurs used to do this for years,try to correct past mistakes but end up making things worse.

I'm a bit concerned at Arteta's mental wellbeing to be honest. Seriously, what does he think he can achieve with our squad that Emery couldn't. Is he under the misapprehension that he couldn't do any worse and therefore things can only improve. How closely was he watching the game on Sunday? Appoint Arteta and in 18 months we will be looking for a new manager. No doubt he will agree to do it on a small budget as no successful experienced manager would take it without say 150 mill next summer .
Going from number 2 at citeh to number 1 would be a huge pay rise , he has nothing to lose.

Guardiola has only ever managed three teams - each with the biggest budget by far in each of the three biggest leagues in Europe (sorry Italian football is shite these days). Whilst he has produced amazing teams, it has been done with huge funds and even in those instances he's never exactly been famed for great defences has he? At Barcelona he had the likes of Mascherano playing at centre half....but it hardly mattered as they a collection of the world's finest midfielders and forwards at his disposal, and the opposition never got the ball

In his first season at Man City when they had the shit keepers and defenders he inherited (but still way superior to any of the c.unts we have) they conceded only 5 goals less than us that season, lost six games and finished 15 points behind the leaders. It took a spending spree of well over £200m to get the keepers and defenders he wanted in place to turn things round and even then some of them were expensive flops. We will never know how he would have done had they had a total budget of £40m to spend on the whole squad. We'll never know because he would never have joined them without those promises

We've now rumoured to be getting the man who has been his pup in training who will be lucky to get £20m to spend on a team that will be starting with a minus goal difference, no saleable assets and a collection of the flimsiest defenders you've ever seen in your life......in the hope that he'll turn them into world beaters.....oh and no CL football to promise any of the luvvies who might want to join us either

If we do accept the argument that the success the likes of Pep and Mourinho have had has always been aided by spending power and/or having the best players at their disposal ... shouldn’t this argument work the other way too?

For instance people will say Adams or Vieira are not good enough to be Arsenal’s manager because they haven’t done anything in the jobs they’ve done up to this point. But Adams was at Wycombe and Portsmouth. Vieira has been at NYC and Nice.

I’m not trying to make a case for either, just suggesting their lack of success as managers shouldn’t count against them too much if the resources and quality of players argument is applied fairly and consistently.

For the last week we have been hearing rumours that arteta wasn't sure about the job and wanted certain reassurances from the board if he was to take it on - my questions are (a) what were those conditions ? (b) have the board agreed to those conditions now ?

You would think that even stevie wonder can see that our defence is woefully short on quality, so you would assume that arteta would insist on some quality defenders being brought in as an absolute priority, so are we likely to see some purchases next month ?

If he made a big deal about these commitments from the board, and now backs away from making them a condition for him taking the job, then he is already fcuked before he starts
