Out of interest why should the attacker get the advantage?
Purely so we can see more goals?
How about it gets changed to any part of the body in line with the defender means you are offside........
Never understood the attacker getting the advantage, it is just as hard to time stepping up to catch someone off side as it is to time your run to keep yourself on side Christ the famous 4 made a living and a dance move from it, not sure most of those offsides we got would count these days

Goals yes, but also less stoppages in play and the creation of more goal mouth action. But the concept was for when linesmen actually made the call on offside - if it was too close to call then side with the striker. I've always been for the idea of giving the attacker the advantage within reason.GoonerMuzz wrote: ↑Sun Apr 25, 2021 11:10 pmOut of interest why should the attacker get the advantage?

Too many stoppages kill the game. Thats one of my biggest gripes with VAR (along with the cheating and the inacuracy) its making the game into some stop start shit like homoruggerball ffs.
I actually agree with Wenger’s idea of if any part of your body is in line with the last defender then you are onside.

Yes, the clear daylight ruling was the best solution imo. Even more so now with VAR. They can draw their lines without ambiguity. Also stop this shit when they guess where someone's shirt sleeve ends when a player is wearing long sleeves. Any gap between the two lines, no matter how small, would be irrefutable.DB10GOONER wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 6:27 amGoals yes, but also less stoppages in play and the creation of more goal mouth action. If you do that you might as well scrap the rule altogether, no defender will be able to chance the offside rule ever again. Bear in mind the attacker already has the advantage of running in the right direction already where as in general the defender is attempting to move the opposite way at the right time.
Defending is already becoming nearly impossible In the modern game where the slightest contact with an attacker nearly always results in a free kick.
Christ you can even get red carded for clearing a ball these days

We had the clear daylight rule years back and ostensibly it worked. Absolutely no idea why it was changed back.GoonerMuzz wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 12:26 pmIf you do that you might as well scrap the rule altogether, no defender will be able to chance the offside rule ever again. Entertainment, more goals expected Wenger (tm) or more realistically fat lazy linesmen not being able to keep up with play but cameras do, so mistakes by linesmen have become more and more obvious, hence the changing to the monstrosity that is VAR now, it is just an extension of technology outstripping humans. When you can see it on camera on millions of screens worldwide the mistakes are more obvious and hence more controversial, which incidentally means more ratings, all the rule changes over the past 3 decades or so can almost certainly be put at the door of Sky, and the other TV companies and their advancing technology and hence more money, money, money....... or maybe I'm just cynicalClummo99 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 12:41 pmWe had the clear daylight rule years back and ostensibly it worked.
