Arsenal scouts have been watching VFB Stuttgart of late and, though much of the media have jumped to the conclusion that Mario Gomez is of interest to the Gunners, it's understood that defender Khalid Boulahrouz is the main tranfer target.

The 27-year-old Holland international has Premier League experience with Chelsea already and may move for a lot less than the €12m the Blues paid Hamburg.

In fact, Boulahrouz cost Stuttgart only €5m last year.

Arsenal join Manchester City and Tottenham in Carlos Tevez race

Carlos Tevez is wanted by SIX rival Premier League clubs.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City and Aston Villa are all vying to sign the Argentine striker this summer.

But none of the clubs is prepared to meet the £28million asking price that Tevez's owner Kia Joorabchian is believed to be demanding for his protegee.

The issue is further complicated by the issue of third-party ownership, which has now been outlawed by the Premier League.

No club can recruit Tevez on a loan deal. They must acquire his registration outright and become the player's sole owner.

The Premier League has also informed prospective buyers that their understanding is that Tevez is within his legal rights to break his contract with Joorabchian and negotiate his own deal. But that is an unlikely option given his close relationship with Joorabchian, the 38-year-old Iranian-born businessman.

United have the first option to sign Tevez after brokering an initial two-year loan deal with an option to clinch a permanent deal at £32m.

But the United hierarchy have become embroiled in a war of words with the Joorabchian camp, who claim the club are misleading fans, painting a false picture about on-going negotiations.

Joorabchian and his advisers maintain United have not yet tabled an offer for the player.

Joorabchian is furious with United after they reneged on their original agreement to take up the option to buy him when they signed the player on loan from West Ham in the summer of 2007.

Joorabchian is likely to be further incensed when United do eventually table on offer for Tevez. It is likely to be no more than £15m.

United maintain the initial agreement struck with Joorabchian does not reflect his present market value following the worldwide economic recession.

And although the player has stated publicly his desire to stay at Old Trafford it appears increasingly likely that following the Champions League final in Rome he will walk away from the club.

Manchester City and Chelsea have the financial resources to negotiate a cash deal but Arsenal, Tottenham and Aston Villa would have to raise any fee by off-loading players before they even contemplate entering transfer and salary negotiations.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to sell Nicklas Bendtner to West Ham in a £10m move to help fund his move for Tevez. And Villa boss Martin O'Neill accepts he would have to trade one of his crop of young strikers like Gabriel Agbonlahor to raise the required funds.

As for Joorabchian, he makes no secret he is in football with a view to making money.

In an interview he gave in September 2006 he said: "I'm involved in football because I love it. I think in life, because life is so short, you need to do a business, which you really love. I think it can potentially make money and I think it will give a lot of pleasure to a lot of people."

There is no doubt he stands to prosper considerably from Tevez sale but suggestions that Real Madrid were prepared to pay as much as £40m to acquire the player were dismissed last night.

Arsenal eye Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen

Arsenal are set to make a £7.5million bid for Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen.

Manager Arsene Wenger received glowing reports about the Belgian-born Vermaelen and has had him checked by leading members of his scouting staff.

The feedback has been positive on the Ajax skipper, who can play in central defence or at left-back.

Wenger is set to take steps to reinforce an Arsenal defence which he conceded last week lacked the solidity of champions Manchester United.

Since he lost William Gallas through injury at the end of February, Arsenal have looked vulnerable at the back - and Wenger pinpointed that failing as the glaring difference between his team and United.

Wenger said: "In attack we have scored almost as many goals as United, but we have let in more." Vermaelen would be a welcome addition to his defensive options.

He is 23 and has shown such leadership qualities that he was appointed captain this season.

He has also established himself as a regular in the Belgian national team - and he is also versatile, another trait that Wenger admires.

With continued uncertainty about the future of Gael Clichy, Wenger would have an ideal replacement.

Real Madrid, along with AC Milan, are reported to be keen on Clichy and, if he goes, Wenger will be equipped to fill that gap.

Arsenal Gunning For Juventus Defender Giorgio Chiellini

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly chasing Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini, despite reportedly having his transfer kitty cut to just £13 million.

The Gunners boss has previously said he would be aiming to sign experienced players in the summer, and could start with a summer move for the Italian defender.

However, a report in The Daily Mail today have suggested that Wenger's transfer budget has been revised, and cut down to just £13 million, meaning a move for the 24-year-old Italian would be his main signing in the summer.

The news may mean Wenger decides to cash in on some of his stars, with Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie moving ever closer to an Emirates Stadium exit.

Togolese striker Adebayor is likely to bring in a sum of around £20 million if he is sold, with AC Milan and Chelsea showing a keen interest in signing him.

Wenger's priority is a central defender however, and it is felt that Chiellini could be the answer, with the Italian expected to cost around £10 million.

Chiellini has been playing for Juventus since moving to the club in 2005 from fellow Serie A outfit Fiorentina, and has since made 103 league appearances for the club, managing 10 goals.

Manchester City wary of £15million Arsenal interest

Arsenal Football Club are said to have set their sights on an ambitious bid for Stephen Ireland.

The Republic of Ireland international has been in sensational form for Manchester City this season, with his performances overshadowing those of £32.5million record buy Robinho.

It is believed Arsene Wenger is willing to pay £15million to take the midfielder to the Emirates Stadium, and such interest doesn’t surprise Blues boss Mark Hughes.

Indeed, the Eastlands club are now preparing a mega new contract worth £80,000-per-week to keep Ireland in Manchester and stave off the interest from the Gunners.

Arsenal in frame for £10million Belgian international

Arsenal Football Club have identified Steven Defour as a potential signing.

Arsene Wenger may have made his back four a priority for the summer transfer window, but he is also keen to add a midfielder to his squad ahead of the 2009/10 season.

Reports in Holland suggest the French coach is considering a move for Belgian international Defour, who is currently contracted to Standard Liege in his homeland.

The 21-year-old is rated at £10million by his club, and if the Gunners were to make a move, they can expect competition from Aston Villa and Werder Bremen.

Ade

Post by piresistible »

I am one of those people who think that Adebayors effort and his commitment would never be appreciated no matter how hard he tries for Arsenal by the fans who simply love to hate him, even when the team lacked balance the fans have been quick to point that Ade lacked effort after havin not created chances for him. If you look at Arsenal you will find that Adebayor is a lesser problem to the club than Van Persie but even then i wouldn’t let Persie go because our problems as a football team are in; A-The Defensive midfield B-The Centre back position and C-The Goal keeping position. Dear fans before these positions are sorted you are always going to point a finger in the wrong direction hence remaing with never ending problems. But again before we fill those positions i suggest we sell first in those respective position i mention wisely and then buy.

Inter Chase Arsenal Star Robin Van Persie - Report

Inter are considering a move for unsettled Arsenal striker Robin van Persie, according to ilsussidiario.net.

With Adriano leaving in mid-season and Julio Cruz and Hernan Crespo set to depart the San Siro this summer, coach Jose Mourinho is searching for reinforcements in attack and Van Persie would seem to fit the bill.

The 25-year-old is reportedly unhappy with the new contract being offered to him by the London outfit and Arsenal could cash in rather than risk losing the player for free in the future.

Van Persie only cost Arsenal €3 million back in 2004, when they purchased him from Feyenoord. The latest reports indicate that he could move for as little as €9 million.

The versatile striker has made 41 appearances this season in all competitions for his club, finding the back of the net 18 times.
