THE NORMAN WISDOM MEMORIAL FILM THREAD

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

all the reality stuff bends my mind.

Sim theory

if we are in a simulation there would be zero way to tell from within it.

if any previous civilisation had the ability to build a simulated universe the chances we are in a real universe is billions to one (there will only be one real universe with billions possible simualations running, if children can make them like sims games).

If a simulated universe could create simulated universes (nested sims) its gets even more crazy.

Any sim universe would likely be smaller than its creators universe, or lower resolution (so things could seem spooky at small scales), or have to have cause and effect limited by range. this is to presevere computing power

It would also probably have a means of reverse time dilation :rubchin: so you can watch it elapse faster than your own universe.

it is also possible too many nested sims could crash a given simulator like a stack overflow on a x86 based computer system we use now, or force time dilation in the child universe (its speed of light constant/cause and effect would have to slow down to a new slower speed) :hmmthink:

the setup of our universe supports all of these things (in theory) it also seems to have a reset button the big bang, this is why even the top boffins do not rule it out, many say it's as good a theory as anything else.

but also at the same time, it's not worth worrying about, because if it is a sim, it has sim jail, sim sex, sim beer, sim football and if you can never prove it does it even matter :?:

Holographic theory

our universe is a projection and does not contain any real matter. this is also a very big theory for many scientist

Stan and Ollie - brilliant, even if you’re not a fan of Laurel and Hardy. Just a well acted and well scripted film. Steve Coogan and John C Reilly deserve Oscar nominations, but no doubt they will be overlooked by a film about diversity or mental issues!

Everyone should watch this. It absolutely brings gone the sheer horror of WW One. When it switches from grainy black and white to colour and at the correct speed it is truly eye opening. Highly recommended.

This is available on Channel 4's 4oD (iPlayer) at the moment, I cannot recommend it highly enough, it is a film/documentary about
Alex Honnold, who does Fee Solo (Climbs) of Mountains - If you don't like heights or have vertigo get ready for that horrible feeling in the nuts,
but it really is remarkable what & how he does what he does.

WAtched it on Friday night - excellent - Steve Coogan totally surprised me - Yes he is an very gifted (comedic) writer etc, but he was excellent in this.

For anyone who hasn't seen this "Spotlight" movie - very difficult subject matter, but worth watching - a True Story.

it's on BBC iPlayer for 3 weeks from today (28/7/2019)

Saw the latest Tarantino last night. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I loved it. Real homage to the late sixties film and television industry with a clever mix of fact and fiction. Very(!) violent ending, even though it's a bit tongue in cheek, it really makes you wince! Great soundtrack as well. Recommended.

Saw the trailer for this on YT ... looks rather interesting...

I've always rated Joaquin Phoenix as an actor and he seems to have pulled out all the stops on this one ....

I don't normally like clowns they give me the heebie jeebies ... hence the restraining order ever since I tasered that fuckker at the halloween party 3 years ago :(

Found this on You Tube:

Fritz Lang's Restored version of Metropolis (With added score)

Seeing as it was made in 1927 it is pretty amazing and scarily accurate in places:
