I think in the reporting of this people seem to be struggling to see the wood for the trees. This is nothing to do with him being outspoken, politically incorrect or whatever.

He hit a (by the sounds of it senior) colleague, seemingly with fairly little provocation. Granted not automatically fatal in the industry as it would be in most normal office environments, but still serious. The BBC are basically obliged to suspend him on the basis of this incident, whatever his history there.

Gross misconduct at the very least.....assaulting a colleague in the workplace

Clarkson sacked. Well, contract not being renewed. Good riddance, got too big for his boots and thought he was unaccountable for his actions. Wrong! :barscarf:
