Elneny / Denilson
Is it just me, or does anyone else think he's just another Denilson?
All he seems to do is pass to the nearest player as soon as he gets the ball. He doesn't take his time. Doesn't hold the ball. Doesn't look for a telling pass. Doesn't position himself well when off the ball. Doesn't take responsibility. Against manyoo he was ineffectual. A total waste of space.
Opinions?

I feel similar to you mate. For me, he only adds to the numbers but adds nothing to the quality.olgitgooner wrote:Is it just me, or does anyone else think he's just another Denilson?

I do, however, reserve a special kind of bile for Denilson....and for the Irish Arsenal fan I met in Berlin who first pronounced that he himself was, "the biggest Arsenal fan you'll meet" (and I've met a few

Don't get me started on McGoldrick

Then he moved on to saying that Denilson was a tremendous midfielder because of his 80 something percent successful pass rate.

Re: Elneny / Denilson
As for Elneny, I too am starting to see a definite Legohead Denilson similarity.... Like Legohead he looked sharp and intelligent with the ball at the beginning, but then just "progressed" onto 5 yard nothing passes and not taking responsibility for anything.
I might have mentioned this on here one or two hundred times in the past
but my overiding memory of LegoHead is that stupid fucking grin on his face as he slowly jogged back after being overtaken by fat Rooney (who had started 20 yards behind him), and then to add insult to injury, the the fucking ref went flying past him too!

Agreed. Denilson was a cúnt. A total fucking poster-boy of the mediocrity of 2008-11.DB10GOONER wrote:As for Elneny, I too am starting to see a definite Legohead Denilson similarity.... I am concerned about the bit in bold. We know TOF has already coached the shooting out of Elneny, it stands to reason that TOF is all in favour of nothing sideways passes from our players. It looks like he's going to ruin yet another player with promise

I'd like to see more from Elneny, but this comparison to Denilson already is quite damning. If the stagnation of our players alone doesn't say we need a new manager with new ideas, I don't know what else can convince the AKB.
Re: Elneny / Denilson
I really don't like it when two words or names are combined to make one but Elnison does sort of work in an annoyingly droll ''I should be on Twitter'' sort of way
Err anyway ... Denilson was a big disappointment ... maybe some some of us got sucked in by the fact that he was from Brazil? It doesnt quite work the same way or come with the same expectation when a player is from Egypt.
And it doesnt really work like that with Brazilians anymore ... not after abominations like Denilson, Santos and Baptista. What a trio of shite if ever there was one!

Re: Elneny / Denilson
Yeah the signs are ominous. Eleney's goal in the Nou Camp was a great strike but Denilson was also capable of that at one time. He scored a cracker at Goodison park early in his Arsenal career before becoming the master of the 1 yard pass.Sean wrote:Agreed. Denilson was a cúnt. Re: Elneny / Denilson
I think he's okay but simply not used enough. Don't forget he was bought in at a time we had 5 midfielders out injured and was always gonna 6th in line for the midfield two position. I'm not sure if Xhaka is ahead of Elneny. He's a good player better than denilson but remains behind Coquelin, ramsey and santi.
Re: Elneny / Denilson
I remember that screamer; it was the 6-1 in the 2009-10 season opener. Unfortunately, he had blighted our first team for a while by then.Clash wrote:Yeah the signs are ominous. He scored a few good long-range efforts. Made me think he was better as an attacking player rather than a 'false DM'.

Re: Elneny / Denilson
Totally agree. Whenever I've watched Elneny play, whether it's at the game or on the tele, he's never made me sit up and think "we've got a good player on our hands here". Keeps things very simple and the game seems to bypass him. Majority of his shots are wayward too; exception being the very good goal he scored at the nou camp.
Re: Elneny / Denilson
Did Denilson ever score at the Nou Camp? Didn't think so.

Re: Elneny / Denilson
He has only looked a decent option when he has opened up and played more of a box-to-box role.
When he just sits back like against United. Not enough anticipation to play in that role and as said above doesn't really have the composure on the ball or the passing range.
Bang average player.
