Anthems
Anthems
We used to have “she wore a yellow ribbon” the victims have their nauseating pacemakers shite!! Celtic have the fields of athenry etc etc
What is the best fans anthem??
I reckon you’ll go a long way and further to hear a better one than the Hibbees “Sunshine onLeith” some great versions on YouTube.
Too drunk to do a link

Re: Anthems
"Blaydon Races" can be impressive at Newcasttle and "Bubbkes" at the Boleyn , don't know about the new place. But we have never had a real one albeit the " Eton boating song " was parodied in the early 60' s but died out when the all seater came to pass. I am sure the words can be found on google or I could write them out if anyone is interested.

Agree 100% - I watched them singing it after they beat rangers in last seasons cup final, and tbh it gave me goosebumps I hadnt heard it sang before, and listening to thousands of success starved hibs fans singing it in unison was a sight to behold
Tbh I have never really felt that "she wore a yellow ribbon" was an anthem - it never really spread/unified the fanbase to the extend that the above songs did for their clubs. I always go back to the song "A Goal" that was released for one of our cup finals a good few years back (wrighty sang on it with finbarr wright I think) - that for me would have made a great anthem for us and it incorporated our rich heritage and traditions

Less of an anthem, more of a Chas ´n´Dave inspired pub song.

I often wonder why a lot of Southampton fans go to watch N17. You can often hear them singing the Southampton anthem at N17 matches. Also, why do Watford have the Z cars music? Fair enough at Everton but nothing to do with Hertfordshire is it?

Closest we got was 1-0 to the Arsenal ( or we’ll win cos we’re Arsenal) during the 94 cup winners cup run.
Born at half time at th Parc de Princes, when we were 1-0 up v PSG and the pet shop boys version was played over the loudspeakers, eagerly adopted by the traveling Gooner contingent.

I remember taking my pocket money down to Woolworth's to buy it, and singing it proudly and non-stop, but if I'm honest, it's not really stood the test of time and is no way suitable as an 'anthem'.

Must admit the lyrics were quite repititive to the Rule Brittania tune...

Re: Anthems
Anthem? No. Just..... no.
We are not Northerners ffs.
The club tried to force a manufactured Anthem onto us in the early days at the Conglomerates Lego Bowl if you remember. I was arriving later and later to games just to avoid that godawful "the wonder of you" horseshit.
An Anthem either grows spontaneously from the terraces or you do without.

Good Old Arsenal , written by Jimmy Hill I think. for the 1971 cup fiinal because we didn't have one and the TV companies were all creaming themselves over Liverpool's one .
Still are too.
