we always bugger it up somehow in Europe under wonga, even the invincibles did - own goals, sendings off, penalties.

I don't know enough about AM to know whether they will sit back and play it tight or go at us, but their home record is outstanding and Wonga is unable to play it tight and nick a goal.

A competition where your reward for winning it is that you don't have to return to play in the sodding thing next year.

I couldn't imagine this current squad in the CL next season, I don't care who the manager is. Whoever the new guy is, he is going to have a small core of worthwhile players with whom he can hopefully rebuild a strong, winning team. It's going to take both time & money. Wenger had plenty of both..I don't think the new guy is going to get much money to kick off with. Going to be a tough job. If we do return to Europa next season, a decent manager could win it for us. If Wenger could get us this far then...............

One other real blessing is that Wenger got the bullet before Ramsey got his 200k per week

haha yeah thats a good point It used to be the reward for winning a competition was that you automatically qualified for it the next time and had a chance to defend it. But not here ... and this is a clear admission that this competition is shit.

Its a pity too because the UEFA cup, although inferior to the European cup in terms of prestige, was a tough competition to win and there were often more good teams in that than the European Cup. Winning the UEFA never got you a place in the EC though and rightly so. Atletico Madrid are the first good team we have played in this entire competition. The standard has been shocking ... worse than I expected. But then many of the CL teams are shit too so it shouldn't be a surprise.

Anyway tonight all depends on AM's approach. If they play for a 0-0 I think they will regret it. If they wanna knock Arsenal out they need to attack us from the start and get some goals.
