As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Not sure I agree that the extent of the transfer kitty is irrelevant to whether people are persuaded to renew their season tickets. Wenger going is a prerequisite.....but people still want to be convinced that the club is not going to be trying to operate on the cheap in the modern era, where that simply isn't an option if we want to be the best again.
To a large extent the calibre of manager we are able to attract is inextricably linked to how much we are going to give them to overhaul this squad and enable us to compete properly with the elite of English and European football as we were promised.
Yes, Wenger mismanaged the resources available to him big time.....but if the new guy is told that he will only have about 50 or 60 million to work with that will speak volumes about the club's ambitions.
I agree with almost all of what you are saying, but the part I highlighted is more or less what I am saying - talk in the media about transfer budgets is largely to be ignored imo cos mostly it is hot air, but to me the caliber of the manager they appoint will be more telling. It is for that reason why I said get a top manager and agree a budget with him (as opposed to putting out public rumours about budget) because if a manager like allegri (for example) agree's to join us, then he must feel the new budget is acceptable to him, and that would be good enough for me
I never believed the £50m transfer kitty story, but nor do I believe this story
Being honest here I have to say that I dont think the transfer budget will have a big bearing on renewals - in previous seasons the mythical "transfer chest" story was wheeled out to counter the fact that the french c.unt was staying, but I think that the club and the fans know that the biggest factor now is who gets the managers job. Giving brendan rodgers (for example) the job and even a £500m transfer kitty wouldnt placate the fans, so the club need to go and get a quality manager and agree a budget with him, cos getting a top manager is the immediate priority for us fans
Agree but I don't think either issue can be looked at in isolation. I don't think the likes of Allegri would agree to join if he was told we have a shoestring budget to try and compete with the likes of Liverpool and Spurs, let alone Chavski, United and City.
That is why I don't think we have a hope in hell of signing up a top level manager, it will be a wildcard 'bold' appointment, aka as cheapskate bs appointment in 'real terms'.
As always I hope to be proven wrong, but I said the same to AKB's many times over the last decade and sadly I was proven correct each and every time!!.
I've always felt that immaterial of the stature of our club who we attract for the managers job will depend on the clubs ambition and that individuals assessment of the resources being made available to him and i dont think any of that has changed.
Most managers are fairly intelligent, or the top class ones anyway, if you're being told you have a minimal budget and your looking at the top club in the league being 33 points ahead of you it is seriously going to give you pause for thought over whether its a worthwhile challenge or not, bear in mind their success or not impacts on their reputation and future job prospects.
In terms of season ticket sales i'm not sure budget will have as large an effect this year, i think a lot of people will buy season tickets because quite simply we're entering a new era, i don't think they'll announce the new manager too early either because that may have a significant effect on sales.
One thing that will be interesting is how prepared we are under the new manager for the new season due to the world cup and other factors. I'm not sure when the teams assemble for pre tournament training and when they'll return from post tournament holdiays but it is yet another reason i dont envy the new manager immaterial who he is.
That buvac guy is still favourite at 2/1, but allegri has gone out from 4/1 to 5/1, and ancelotti is in from 6/1 to 5/1
Now that Sky has a hand in the betting market, I am very dubious of rumours which they are driving like the Buvac guy. I think that the actions surrounding this - no one saying a word and he is keeping his role is pretty consistent with the view that he isn't going anywhere. Whatever it is that he took a leave of absence for is being kept under wraps because he is a private person. That alone means that he won't be taking centre stage anywhere anytime soon.
I still reckon that we had someone lined up for a while and it will be a decent appointment.
Whether or not they can turn around Wenger's mess is another matter....
Still Ancelotti for me
Le bumhole should be been bounced out when it was leaked..Him being allowed to hang around till seasons end didn't do us any favours V AThlethico..Look at how we went out ffs..
That being said I'm just glad he's going
Best season since 2004 imo
Kamara on goals on sunday is AGAIN pushing henry's name for the job - he asked him live if he would be interested in the job, and we got the usual bullshite about how he would never say no if he was asked No c.unt is pushing henry's name for the job except the guys he works with on sky sports - is he that shit a pundit ?

exactly! Ancelotti could have come in as an interim manager for the season remainder,he would have hands down won us the Europa and had a chance to see what hes got to work with next season,it would have been win win, then we could have looked at getting him full time, but no the club stuck with le fartpipe and look what happened

Agreed, all this doing things 'properly' crap is just nonsense, the club comes before Wenger's need to be seen to leave on his own terms, now whoever the replacement is will have the shortest transfer window since f*ck knows when and a world cup summer to contend with, just because the owner/board were too gutless to pull the trigger, Kroenke made this mess by allowing Wenger to stay last summer, everyone but him (even Ivan) could see the writing was on the wall.
Yank SCUM OUT.
I just hope Josh hates his dad... or we are truly f*cked with these parasitic organisms feeding off the club.
Probably end of the week if it's Allegri. They're all but champions of Italy now given Napoli's 2-2 draw this afternoon. Juve six points clear with two games left, a win vs Milan on Wednesday and they're champions again.
