As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
I agree, was so baffled when loads were desperate for him to get the job, he has such a minimal history at the club, came via Barcelona, PSG, Rangers & Everton so he had no massive connection with the club anyway, a very average captain in an awful era but loads acted like he captained the double winners.
Agree, he has not got the Arsenal man inbedded in him - he was also given a contract extension when his usefulness to the team was minimal and so was kept longer than required.
“Captaincy is overrated” anyway, we had 11 captains out there, every match
As a player he was great at Everton, his corners and free kicks (particularly aimed at Cahill) were very precise.
He’d be better off staying at City, rather than a similar role with us.
I assume henry can speak spanish from his time at barca too ? Either way I have to say that I would want neither involved - I would much prefer emery bring in his own guy that is multi-lingual, instead of bringing in a pires or henry who have links to the old regime, and are french and may bring back stories to the senile old has been c.unt
Maybe I am being overly protective here, but am I the only one who thinks that the media reports calling emery as "the safe option" or the "sensible choice", are a bit disrespectful to emery ? Are people saying that purely in comparison to arteta, or do believe really see him as the safe option ? I think that had he been announced within days of the french cock's impending departure (a month ago), it would have been viewed as a massive coup for the club due to his track record as a manager - now it seems to me that the bizarre arteta links, has people viewing emery and his appointment in a different, and less respectful way

Emery wants someone who has an Arsenal link as well, not just being able to speak Spanish. Presumably because he wants someone who can give him a perspective of the club gained through their experience and affiliation to the club.
He has enough of his 'own guys' joining him at Arsenal already.
I can see the logic of a dressing room connection with the ability to communicate with Arsenal connections. Maybe he has picked up on the malaise within the players needing to be more Arsenal orientated. Not a bad plan in my opinion .
The nightmare scenario is of course Wenger can speak 6 or 7 languages.
What difference does it make if he's not fluent in English? Over half the squad isn't fluent in English, and that includes the British born ones.
the ex manager could speak English - didnt do much good did it ?
I don't care if he only speaks a rare form of some long lost Amazonian tribal language,Wenger is gone and hopefully this chap will reignite my long waned passion for Arsenal,

Not important imo unless the ex-player in question is very good at his job, and has no links with previous regime - ex players like PV4 or TA6 or Bergkamp are fine with me cos they wouldnt be close to wenger or his regime, but pires, arteta, henry etc would be bad appointments and I would rather a qualified "outsider" than them

Our dear media friends are just a bunch of dicks with hardly an original thought between them. I think that they know that our new gaffer is actually a pretty decent appointment and that fact has robbed them of a summer of easy reporting about discontent at the Arsenal, how risky Arteta is and continued unrest among the supporters. With the appointment of Emery all that bollox has been dispelled in one fell swoop which coupled with a decent press conf by the man (loved the way he pronounced 'explain') leaves no story for them to dig up. Anyone not excited by this new phase at the club must be clinically dead. For the first time in ages we can't predict what is coming next which was all too easy under TOF.
