Womans "Football" WTF (NSFW)

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

The standard of a few of the games I've seen has been a bit higher than I was expecting ... although admittedly I wasn't expecting a lot! However these are international teams which obviously filters out the worst players and the top 3 or 4 sides are not a reflection on the standard of the women's game in general.

Inevitably there seems to be a lot of delusion that the 11m viewers who watched last nights game is going to see a rise in popularity of the women's game from this moment on. The reality is that it will probably be like the Olympics where people watch it in numbers for a short period of time and then forget about it again afterwards. Until it's forced upon us again!

All the talk is about role models for girls etc. Wasnt all this said about the likes of Jessica Ennis 7 years ago after the London olympics? Why cant they just play their sports without all this additional stuff about leaving legacies and empowering women. Its so fucking tedious to listen to.

And how's this for irony? On radio 5Live this morning it was mentioned that the USA women's team had 3 stars added to their kit because they've won 3 WC's ... and that the 3 stars were also put on the men's kit at one time. The complaint (which I agree with btw) was that ''You can't do that, they've not won anything. You can't just ride on the coat-tail of other's success'' :) Isn't this what the whole women's game is based on?

They didn't form their own clubs, build stadiums or design the colours / kits, attract their own fan-bases... they have literally ridden the coat-tails of the success of the men's game! :banghead:
Absolutely. Absobloodylutely. And all they do in return is whinge and moan about how men's football is shit and they deserve the same money. Shut up, you silly cows.
That's not entirely true. Doncaster Belles was hardly built on the coat tails of the mens game. Millwall Lionessess and charlton ladies in the late '80's and early '90's would be included. It really was the Arsenal Ladies, which were a separate entity to the men's team that became dominant which led to liverpool, chelsea and man city following suit. Had the FA not banned the women from playing in the 1920's then we probably wouldn't have this drive for equal status to the mens game as it would have naturally progressed at its own pace, rather than being forced foward since around 2010.
I'm not sure if you are just freshly married and you are trying to impress your new wife with your pc snowflake posts mate (we've all been there) :D  but that is a whole load of utter shit and ignores the absolute crux of the issue.

Men and women are very different physically.

With the odd freak of nature exception (Spuddy  ) there are very few women on this planet that can physically compete with a man. The standard of the majority of the women that play football is equal to an under 14s boys team.

The pc media luvvies and a few motivated women's libbers are trying to ram the women's game down our throats (steady rodders  ) as equal to the men's game. It isn't because the vast vast majority of women players are not as good as the men technically or physically.

Whilst i believe in equal rights foŕ all there has to be some common sense too. This pc equality rubbish has gone too far. The Navy SEALs opened their books to female recruits last year. One woman applied - and lasted less than a week.

Men and women are different. Deal with it ladies.

I'd argue technically there are women that can match men in the professional game, but physically there is the obvoius difference. Although, in the early '90's I played against a work colleague who also played for Millwall Lionesses and to make her point she took down the biggest player on our team in a full on crunching tackle. He ended up in goal as it aggravated the knee injury that ended his professional football career. The women's game should be appreciated on its own merits

The media are overblowing it as that's the world we currently live in. Like all the fuss over women at work, yet no one is celebrating stay at home fathers???
I once played in a regular Friday lunch time works 5 a side game that included a female co-worker who could, in fairness, play a bit - but she kept putting late ones in on lads and we all let it go because, you know, she was a woman..... eventually one of the lads got sick of it and repaid the compliment. She went off crying and then made a complaint against him in work. Long story short the 5 a side was cancelled.

:D :D good for him!

I have experienced something similar! We used to do our football training on a Wednesday night on an AstroTurf pitch in Brixton and one night a girls team (coached by a couple of men) turned up at our regular spot claiming they had the pitch booked and said we needed to move.

After a long drawn out argument we agreed that the booking office must have made a mistake so we would share the pitch half and half. This didn't work very well so the coach of the girls asked if we wanted to play a match instead.

We started off really inhibited while they went round kicking the crap out of us. Some really late tackles were going in and soon we were 2-0 down. I think the shame kicked in at that point and we decided to give a bit back. We soon came back to 2-2 and their coach could see where it was going so he ended the game a good 10 mins or so early

Apparently some bird made a tea drinking celebration or whatever to mock England. I look forward to the septics finding someone doing a high school shooting celebration against them equally as funny.
To be fair, it was the day before 4th July Independence Day, and as celebrations go, quite tame.

These women don’t like it up em do they ( well according to the survey 25 % to 50 % don’t )

Hahaha, in that particular match I was that guy. I used to tackle like Scholes and I put in a hefty challenge on her. Fair due to her she got up, brushed herself down and got on with it. After the game we went for a drink and she was so pleased I did that during the game as she was getting annoyed that no one would tackle her. I always did believe in equality.

Well its over and there's even less to watch on TV now but you can be sure this is only the beginning of having the game sat on our faces !
Full marks to the USA fans for booing the FIFA boss even though it was for "equality in football" I don't know the figures but the women's game in the USA does seem to generate interest and money so if their FA is making they should give em what their worth and if that's more than the US men's team then so be it .
Unfortunately in the UK clubs will be under pressure to further subsidise the game and pour more money down the cavernous pink hole that is UK Women's football !

Does anyone know if there was any "slippage" during goal celebrations at this women's kick about cup? And I'm talking lips. Not the kind on their faces either. 8)

to be honest the forwards and midfielders of the top 5 or 6 teams in the chicks game are better technically than the MLS or the Championship, in terms of their first touch, ball control and weighted/ curled passes etc.

defensively all the teams were a bit pants, and the game is a bit slower but i thought it was a good watch mostly.

That's a pretty fair summing up imo. I too have enjoyed women's football for a few years now and am pleased they got more media coverage in this tournament.
I think the highlight for me was Lucy Bronze's goal against Norway.
