Off topic a bit Clash but I love GG as much as I love AW and HC but the biggest legend of the Arsenal is Tom Whittaker
It is astounding what Arsenal won during his time with the club as physio ,reserve team manager, assistant manager and manager and I read somewhere that the players said the title wins in the 35 and 38 were down to him as he was a players man and not George Allison who was more of a media man and if you add them to the 2 titles he won in 48 and 53 has manager then that would be 4 :barscarf:
Interesting stuff mate. I think a lot of the 71 double team give similar recognition to Don Howe as those players give to Whittaker.

We all rightly revere Chapman but considering he died in 1934 a lot of credit has to go to others for our continued success throughout the 1930s. That period fascinates me hugely and its a period that is sadly overlooked in comparison with other later periods when it comes to what shaped the modern game.

We all hear about the Busby Babes and Shankly but Arsenal were the real pioneers. Considering there was some post war successes on league and cup, who knows how much more the club could have won without the interruption of WWII. Or if the european competitions had started earlier?

I cant wait for the book despite the measly 3 titles in 20yrs according to those who were around in the 30s
Last 10 years 3 measly fa cups and 99 trips to Wembley
Its hard being a gunner ,where is that violin smilie
You're a funny man aren't you.

Counting Wembley trips as success whether it's win or lose sounds exactly the type of thing Wenger himself would say.

We may have lost to Birmingham etc but we had a great day out. Small club attitude that has no place at The Arsenal.
You carry on with your high expactations because you follow the big club Arsenal , but do try to support and get a little bit of pleasure out of it when things are not going so well because its not always like 1989 to 2004

Ah but you see my friend therein lies the problem. The last 10 years or so of the Wenger era has virtually killed my love for the game (amongst other general issues) and I find it harder to take any kind of pleasure these days sadly.

BTW my time starts way before 1989.

BTW I did not come out of Wembley after the defeat to Birmingham thinking what a great day out

the anger that accumulates when I see or hear of the oid *word censored*.

This myth that he can pick a player out while he sold two up and coming world stars for a combined 5.5mil.

What really boils my blood is there were people still defending him up to his departure :banghead:

And the cun.t even though he is a Multi-Millionaire on the back of stealing a living for the last 11 years of his tenure...he now has a book coming out that reportedly "tells it all" and the advance for that was £500k :?

Fuckk wenger despotic cuntbag.

Wenger won more trophies but also had more seasons where he won nothing. Wenger's longevity allows for both of those of course, he had almost 3 times as long as Graham did as manager! More time, more patience, more money and more control.
The irony lost on TOF is that had he left us 'to win trophies' we likely would have won more than we did,

and its quite likely he would have not won the CL at Madrid before being sacked.

Tho despite my loathing for him, we did have an amazing six/ seven years. I think two doubles does put him in Legend status, but certainly behind GG, Herb etc. including Whittaker.

At last....that explains it ......the real reason Wenger has not come back into management.......

"Until now I had refused to come back because we were having health problems in the family," he is quoted as saying by RMC.

"The offers came always at a moment where I could not or did not want to come back."

Ah, that explains a lot. I bet Barca, RM, Juve and Bayern all refused to give him a couple of weeks to make a decision after they begged him to take charge  Health problems....is that his way of admitting he's nuts :rubchin:

What family is that then? His parents both died before he left Arsenal, his wife left him long before he left Arsenal and his daughter is probably grown up but still young, rich and healthy ... so who's he talking about? Admittedly he could have other family and maybe I'm being out of order but it sounds like another dose of bullshit to me!

It's easy not to elaborate when talking about certain things (like which massive clubs wanted you as manager  ). It makes it look like you are being classy and discreet ... but it also means these claims cannot be proved or disproved.

Classic Wenger! :barscarf:

Haven't you heard Clash ?? His second cousin had an in-growing toenail and his sister-in-law had the miss and hits for a couple of days, due to a dodgy bowl of sauerkraut in an Alsatian restaurant.

Real Madrid were desperately trying to tempt him with an 8 year contract on a guaranteed 12 million a year and Bayern Munich countered with 15 million a year, but only a 5 year deal, albeit including a lovely place called the Berghof in Berchtesgaden, in the Bavarian Alps
Juventus dropped out, because their 10 million a year, 4 year deal, plus a 6 million signing on fee, just didn't cut it.

The ever honourable Arsene told them all to fuck right off, because his cousin's toe and his sister-in-law's bowels, were family traumas that he simply could not ignore.

And that's the truth. :rubchin:

Only a man of Wenger's integrity and strong moral code could have kept quiet about something like this ... until he decided not to. Whoever says the most decent thing to do was to not to mention it at all is bang out of order!
