Off topic a bit Clash but I love GG as much as I love AW and HC but the biggest legend of the Arsenal is Tom Whittaker
It is astounding what Arsenal won during his time with the club as physio ,reserve team manager,assistant manager and manager and I read somewhere that the players said the title wins in the 35 and 38 were down to him as he was a players man and not George Allison who was more of a media man and if you add them to the 2 titles he won in 48 and 53 has manager then that would be 4
Interesting stuff mate. I think a lot of the 71 double team give similar recognition to Don Howe as those players give to Whittaker.
We all rightly revere Chapman but considering he died in 1934 a lot of credit has to go to others for our continued success throughout the 1930s. That period fascinates me hugely and its a period that is sadly overlooked in comparison with other later periods when it comes to what shaped the modern game.
We all hear about the Busby Babes and Shankly but Arsenal were the real pioneers. Considering there was some post war successes on league and cup, who knows how much more the club could have won without the interruption of WWII. Or if the european competitions had started earlier?

yeah! He nearly killed off my interest in football and especially Arsenal FC as well... Can't forgive the cun.t for that...He truly had Lost the plot by time he was forced out...Sad but True.

Wenger won more trophies but also had more seasons where he won nothing. Wenger's longevity allows for both of those of course, he had almost 3 times as long as Graham did as manager! More time, more patience, more money and more control.
The irony lost on TOF is that had he left us 'to win trophies' we likely would have won more than we did,
and its quite likely he would have not won the CL at Madrid before being sacked.
Tho despite my loathing for him, we did have an amazing six/ seven years. I think two doubles does put him in Legend status, but certainly behind GG, Herb etc. including Whittaker.
