Yep. Of all the stupid signings and deals he made in that last 10 years giving Ozil 350k a week is up there with some of his worst.

Modern Arsenal could not organise a piss up in a brewery with free tokens.IW8Goalmachine wrote: ↑Thu Aug 13, 2020 9:15 amhttps://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thesun ... thers/amp/

Trying to explain why he didn't take a pay cut
If, as has been suggested, that the club assured the players pay cuts would ensure no job losses for non playing staff, then the players would have every reason to be angry and distrust the club, and might even make ozil's decision to refuse a pay cut to be the right decision
I know that the pfa are threatening to bring legal action if a salary cap is introduced, but somewhere along the line football is gonna have to cop itself on and change the way it is run - in other words introduce a much lower wage but top it up hugely with bonus's so that the players can still come out with similar wages, but only if performance targets are met, cos nowadays players at the top few levels have no incentive to improve if they are already getting the big bucks. People (rightly) complain about the money agents take out of the game, but is it any different with players ? They get massive wages at top level but how many put anything back in ? They are happier having a dozen expensive cars in their driveway, and a cheap as chips brainless bimbo in their bed

Absolutely. Too many modern players equate wealth with a successful football career rather than trophies won. I've always agreed that a basic salary cap has to come in - but of course it never will.augie wrote: ↑Thu Aug 13, 2020 12:41 pmDB10GOONER wrote: ↑Thu Aug 13, 2020 9:27 amIt's impossible to know what really happened with the pay deferral/cut thing, but tbh I'd have no problem believing Ozil's version that the club made its usual horse's arse of it.
