Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
BBC:
William Saliba is ready to take a pay cut to leave Arsenal, with a host of clubs expected to bid for the 19-year-old French defender in the January transfer window. (L'Equipe via Sport Witness)
If this is true then what the fleck happened between us signing him - his year with his old club and NOW!???
Other clubs were interested in him when we were chasing him and all the reviews were very positive. So what the Jeffin Ell has happened?

And there are plenty of interested clubs now too.......unfathomable what has happened here??!! Really thought it was going to be him and Gabriel as CB partners for years to come. All very strangeOneBardGooner wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 10:41 amBBC:

Nothing to do with homesick he want to go to another club in PLSteveO 35 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 11:40 amAnd there are plenty of interested clubs now too.......unfathomable what has happened here??!! Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
If that happens and he goes on to be a success at another PL club, that will be the ultimate shame. Its bad enough seeing players go overseas and develop into top class players but having it done under your nose is something altogether differentRedarmy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 12:19 pmNothing to do with homesick he want to go to another club in PLSteveO 35 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 11:40 amAnd there are plenty of interested clubs now too.......unfathomable what has happened here??!! Change of manager. Left out of registered squad altogether despite two of the centre backs registered being out with long term injuries

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
I am somewhat confused by the opinion that Saliba is and should be the answer to our defensive situation . He was bought by Sanhelli who left the club soon after with various rumours about how he ran the club and his relationship with agents, Sanhelli approved the fee and Emery who was manager at the time has gone also .
The new management system has looked at him and decided that he doesn't warrant a first team place .
Consider this :- Is Saliba Sanhelli's equivalent to Pal Lydersen . and were the circumstances of his purchase similar ?

Apparently he's the next Adams/baresi hybrid or another stick to bash Arteta with, take your pickA11M11 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 1:35 pmI am somewhat confused by the opinion that Saliba is and should be the answer to our defensive situation . Find me one person, anybody at all, that has said that

Nobody is saying that saliba is a sure thing, but it is a disgrace that he has never been given a chance, and a massive fcuk up if/when we sell him for a loss
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
I wouldn’t say it’s artetas fault although not registering Saliba in the europa squad was very strange.
Spending 27 million on a player who never plays and is deemed worse than mustafi et al is downright bizarre.

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
for certain we signed one of the most promising and coveted young defenders in europe,
According to who ? The BBC reported :- Arsenal have beaten Tottenham to the signing of teenage defender William Saliba from Saint-Etienne for £27m,
Ok some reccomendation .
His agent Djibril Niang is fairly difficult to find out much about and apart from having another young kid playing in Italy there's not much on google about him.
When Tim Lewis came in Sanhelli was gone in seconds with a reported cloud and perhaps the club learned from the Graham affair and this time kept things quiet.
None of us know whether Saliba is the next Vincent Kompany or the next Igor Stepanovs we haven't seen anything to form an opinion.but it would seem that Arteta leans towards the latter and probably Bould was not impressed by his rash tackle at Plough lane .
Whichever way you look at things the club has had it's fingers burned during Sanhelli's era and I agree that Luiz , Mustafi , Sokratis and few others are surplus to requirement but they will be gone sooner rather than later .
We have a number of young players coming through some will make it others won't . I rather like the sound of this Irish ( Northern ) boy at Blackpool
Ballard who is getting promising reviews like this :- Northern Ireland manager Ian Baraclough believes Arsenal will be ‘delighted’ by the progress Blackpool loanee Daniel Ballard has made this season, as he told the Belfast Telegraph.
Maybe instead of lining the pockets of agents we should be looking in house first.

So what you are telling me is that you have more faith in a kid that has played 7 games in league one level in england, than a kid that has played 20 games in the french top division ? The french kid has also represented his country at every level from under 16 up to under 20 btw
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Yeah the club really fucked up there. It seems likely to me that Arteta did his part by approving the loan deal but it’s amateur hour that the club couldn’t sort the paperwork out in timeaugie wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 1:17 pmOneBardGooner wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 10:41 amBBC:

I guess we’ll never know but I suspect Saliba would have made our Europa league squad if Arteta had known Edu and his team were going to make such a mess of everything! - after all, even long term injury players like chambers, Mari & martinelli made it in!

Feel sorry for Saliba. And to think he missed a cup final too
