Over here, in the first two weeks of January 1500 people flew into our country from brazil alone with no enforced quarantine - meanwhile as an Irishman I cannot play sports, attend sports, cannot go to the pub or go out for something to eat, cannot get to a barbers to get a haircut, cannot go to a clothes shop, cannot go any more than 5km from my house, cannot visit my friends, and cannot get my sons an education. We are being told that we should forget about going on a sun holiday this year (they can fcuk right off with that  ), and meanwhile our leader is planning a trip to the white house for paddy's day
Huh? Wtaf? Have they closed down the school shack down there in Irish Appalachia?

But seriously do the schools not have online classes? My kids are in the own rooms with laptops "attending" school through Teams online. Works great.

In my opinion "works great" might be a slight exageration, but yes for some classes it is working ok. However there are other classes where the teachers are uploading work for the kids to do instead of a "live class" ...... that is not teaching in my book. I have a lad doing his leaving cert exam this june and now the talk is again about predicted grades instead of doing the actual exams - they missed 3 months of last school year, and have missed at least 2 months of this school year, so wtf are they gonna base their grades on ? Naturally kids being lazy (as most are these days  ) want the predicted grades cos it saves them having to do the exams, but that is not educating them and will without doubt have long term consequences in their future - I know that if the current batch of teachers had experienced this mess when they were being taught, many of them wouldnt have the nice jobs that they have today
What is really getting me pissed at the situation is that the government told the teachers to go back and they refused and are sitting at home on full pay now - they state that most of the country are in lockdown but that is obviously incorrect, and everyday things that the teachers are taking for granted (like food, electricity, phones, police/gardai) are being provided by people that these teachers are seemingly oblivious to (maybe they dont count cos they aint as well educated   )

Well, my turn has come for the vaccine now, Sunday morning at GP and getting Pfizer. Feels quite liberating after being locked up for so long. Roll on the summer!

Up here they are still vaccinating 80 year olds.

Im 52 but in group 4 which is a high risk group. Just hope that I don't start getting side effects like having spud like tendencies. Might as well get Covid if that is the case!

Having the Pfizer jab,

I would study the ramifications of the EU’s vaccine spat before taking the Pfizer jab. The German threats to prevent export to the UK could jeopardise the efficacy of the drug
I would definitely ask the question.

I actually could have had AZN tomorrow at local pharmacies but decided to wait for my GP to contact me because I knew they were offering Pfizer. Its a better vaccine, let the Europeans do what they want, they will look pretty bad on the world stage if people dont get second doses.

The Europeans were not only slow out of the blocks for vaccine procurement and distribution, they only approved the AZN jab today. So fuck them, they even wanted to break the terms of the brexit agreement which has really got the DUP annoyed tonight, The UK and US spent 7 times more per capita than the EU.

Finally we got something right on the vaccine front, but lets not forget we need the whole world vaccinated to get out of this pandemic.

The only thing I will question is the way that you are saying with absolute certainty that one vaccine is better than another - how do you know that ? All anyone have to go on is data from trials that the company itself releases ...... are we now saying that pharmaceutical companies are straight up honest people ? I dont know if any of the vaccines are good or not, but I would always be wary of the integrety of companies when billions of dollars/pounds/euros is on the line

Btw I still think that covid is a man made virus - that it created a market for these companies might be just a coincidence, but imo somebody made it

I am saying for me personally it's better because I am not having the virus but a spike protein injected. Live viruses are not recommended for people with my medical condition.

Then it's about the efficacy given I am immunocompromised, my immune system won't be as efficient as a person with no underlying health conditions. It's not an exact science but say I lose 30% from Pfizers 95% efficacy then it's still going to be much better than AZN who have quoted 70%.

My understanding is that Pfizer and Oxford both use the spike protein from the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Have I been wrong all this time?!

On efficacy, you have a point yes. But what can we do. Got two choices and pick which one we think is best.

At least I had that option, fortunately, my GP surgery can store the Pfizer vaccine at low temp.

Conversely, the Germans don't trust AZN's vaccine.
