THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I reckon the media witch hunt after the celtic game was driven by revenge after he dumped Ingerland out of the 2008 euro qualifiers.
I'd say it deffo played its part.

In fact, I'd say it was the reason :rubchin:

It's when that old bollox "no professional footballer EVER goes into a tackle intending to hurt the opponent" get trotted out.

Just ask Alfie Haaland and Roy Keane how true that is. The absolute best examples that the statement is a load of crap.

Leg breaks aren't "that" common in top flight football, but fuck me, we had more than the entire plge fair share in a relatively short period.
It was a fucking disgrace and I hope I live long enough to read the likes of Pulis' Pardew' Fat Sam' Obituaries!

Also! I dont hold with all " it happened when we went soft"
One of the Neville sisters is on record " kick Pires"
That was when we had Adams, Keown, Vieira, Lauren and a few more!
Difference was we could give it back!!
My proudest day! Old Trafford! When we chased them into the dressing room!
Keown, Cole, Lauren !!! What a proud day

^^ Indeed. And we did it in bundles too including that day you mention. Still one of my favourite photos is Lauren having that scruffy Albert Steptoe looking Neville sister round the neck, and Van Nistelrooy cowering like a little girl as Keown and others jumped all over the c.unt.

I'd say teams upped the physicality against us from about 2007 onwards though as Wenger changed his approach to employing only pussies like Hleb, Nasri etc and got rid of the beasts

Just listening to Keown saying how he carried the whole club on his back and Freddie saying how the fans must regret some of the things we said about him at the end

Not me mate! I don't regret any of it !

Me neither, still regard him going as a huge step forward for our club :barscarf:

I see the AKBS have awaken from their slumber and are now doing the "told you so" line about Wenger. Imagine 3 years on, still thinking he shouldn't have been sacked :banghead:

I read this gem on Twitter- "Arsene Wenger leaves Arsenal and in almost exactly three years, Arsenal drop out of contention of any European football in a quarter of a century. I'm not saying anything but I hope the people who hounded out this clubs greatest ever manager are happy and satisfied now".

It was bound to happen wasn't it. Those lemons fail to see of course how we went from 1st to 2nd to 4th to 6th, choosing to believe he suddenly would have reversed the decade of decline and somehow had us back as contenders. I don't think we'd be much better if he was here - the football wouldn't be as turgid as under this c.unt (but then it wouldn't if Fat Sam was manager) but we'd probably be 7th or 8th at best and still with a spineless bunch of pussies making the same mistakes every week
